Your home is probably your biggest investment and who you let in it is very important. It is just as important to select the right contractor when you need work on your home. If you pick the wrong contractor it can cost you far more money in the long run. Here are some contractors in my area that I have used. I would highly recommend all of them and really can’t think of anything wrong with them. There are other contractors out there just as good, but it always helps when one has a reference already.
I would like to give a couple tips for contractors in New Castle, Delaware before getting into the specific contractors. When you are selecting one it is always good to see if a friend of yours from work, church, school or some other social place recommends. People typically do not give recommendations to people they will see regularly unless they really think the company is worthy of it. Once you do find one you do make want make sure they are licensed. People have claimed to be licensed and have not been. If that is that case you have little recourse in the event of bad work done by them. I also recommend a quick Google on the net just to see if there are any major consumer complaints against them. There are always going to be people who are never happy, but you can usually tell a company you should stay away from or a customer who just could not be pleased no matter what. There is more that can be done but these are some starting points on choosing a contractor.
The first company that I would like to mention is Horizon services. They have offices in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Services offered by them include plumbing, air conditioning, heating, drain cleaning, and sewer and water line replacement. We actually got a recommendation for them from a friend and had heard several ads on the radio, and seen some on TV as well as in the news paper. We used them to replace a hot water heater and fix some extremely leaky faucets in the bathroom. They also would later repair a leaking toilet for us as well. They were there for three sales calls to estimate what was needed to be done and give an estimate and did three work orders. The estimates were given free and there was no sales pressure at all. Me and my wife both greatly appreciated that. Unlike several of the contractors that I had seen they were always very neat in appearance and their professionalism was top line that I have encountered with contractors. The salesman and contractors also played with my dog when they were here. Some people would have found him to be annoying, but they were really great with him. They took great care in assuming that they did not mess up the house and cleaned up after themselves. Their work was completed without five minutes of the time they told us it should be completed and they always showed up within five minutes of appointment times. Their prices do seem a bit high, but they offer very good warranties on their services and use the better products that are available. Considering everything I can’t think of a reason not to use them. I still use them for jobs to this day when something comes up.
The next company to discuss is A Plus Roofing and Construction. They have one office located in Wilmington Delaware. Their services are more outside the home. As the name implies they do roofing. In addition to roofing, they also do attic insulation, gutter replacements, and home siding. All of the work they do is designed to help keep you home green as far as energy goes. They use products designed to save you money on your heating bill. This is particularly true of their roofing and insulation products. We had our roof redone as it was getting old and time for a new one. The guys were very nice and professional, but they were nowhere near as neat as the guys from Horizon were in appearance. The job did take a little longer due to some bad wood in the attic we did not notice at first, but overall they did a good job and I would use them again.
The third local contractor that I will mention is PJ Fitzpatrick. They serve Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania. Their services include roofing, siding, Windows, doors and gutters. I had a pretty good feeling about this company as they came recommended by the guys at Horizon. They actually do business in a fairly similar manner. The technicians act and look very professional. They are very neat in the house and make sure to clean up their mess. They are not quite as big as Horizon, so therefore there are not as many technicians. It can take a little longer to get an appointment, but not an excessive amount of time. I actually used them for window replacements. They did a great job and keep the price totally within the estimate and finished on time.
There are lots of contractors in every town, city, and state out there. The tips I used in selected one should help you. If you live in any of the areas that I mentioned you now have three contractors that you could use that do a great job. All three of course offer financing. One benefit to Horizon is that they usually have a one year no interest offer on financing.
