People think that by living in Florida year round we have perfect weather, always warm and plenty of mild days, but the last few years have shown Floridians just how fragile our environment is. With lives lost by the freak tornado that hit Daytona on Christmas day, one realizes even more that life is meant to be enjoyed as much as possible. Now that spring is here and summer is fast approaching, people have calmed from recent tragedies. Excitement permeates the atmosphere in Daytona, as the air has become warmer at night, and Volusia County’s famous velvety breezes are steady. With spring comes the heady scent of flowers in the air, and people’s spirits have awakened and are ready for this summer’s nightlife, eager to show off their new tans, and to set their souls free.
There are plenty of places to go this summer for nightlife in Daytona Beach, if you like biker bars, karaoke, sports bars and twenty-something haunts. Daytona Beach is the official party town of Volusia County Florida, for it is famous for spring break, but even more so for bike week. But there are a couple of places that stand out, by appealing to a set crowd, and incorporating hi-tech and quality atmosphere for fun, romance and getting noticed.
Over Twenty Crowd: The Daytona Stock Exchange
The best spot for classy nightlife and great cuisine is The Stock Exchange. The S.E. is “a dining and dancing experience,” located in the Harbor Marina on the Halifax River. This establishment is located nearby Daytona’s mainland Riverfront Marketplace District, in the revamped historic district where Angel and Phelps chocolates are located, museums and antique shops. The S.E. is a world away from an old Florida bar, offering the best in nightlife in an elegant, yet casual atmosphere. The interior is clean and lovely with a full bar, dance floor and tables, each with individual phones on them, for talking to people at other tables! If you want to flirt or ask someone to dance without getting up from your table, this is the place. They have their own in house D.J. that plays music from the 50’s up to current hits of today. The views from inside and outside are panoramic, for people drive up and dock their boats… the S.E. even provides courtesy docking slips for their dinner and night club guests. Dinner starts before clubbing, generally around four pm, when they also serve free appetizers every Wed., Thursday and Friday. Their happy hour is from 4-7 as well. The food is delicious, gourmet quality meats, delectable side dishes and scrumptious desserts. There is ladies night every Thursday from eight to midnight, and lots more. Dress to impress during club hours. Affordable, classy fun in a great atmosphere for the over twenty-something crowd.
The Twenty-Something Set: Razzles
If you are young, as in just turned twenty-one or over, Razzles is the place for your age group. Razzles is on the beach-side, and is Daytona’s biggest and most popular nightclub, in direct proximity to the ocean. Razzles has a booming dance floor, always jam-packed with people, dancing to the latest in techno, old school, house and more. They have a VIP section, and lines around the block, especially during bike weak, spring break and other events. The age group is eighteen to dance, twenty-one to drink, so you see a lot of spring breaker’s here, but the club is open to people of all ages, and there can be a mix on any given night. They have various events every week, and cover charge varies per event. Dress to impress, for the trendy people frequent this club. Remember when partying, always go with friends, and never drink and drive. There are even some shuttle services and taxi’s in Daytona as well.
