The new season of South Park is definitely looking to start out with a bang after a so-so last season by going after three of tween pop culture’s biggest stars. The Jonas Brothers are the stuff that tween girls dreams are made of: fashion-forward guys that can play instruments and sing. Parents also seem to like the “wholesome” boys (at least they do a good job coming off this way) due to their belief in a tween fashion phenomenon: purity rings.
I personally think that The Jonas Brothers are nothing more than Hanson II. Remember them? They were a group of three brothers who sang and played instruments that tween and teen girls were absolutely ga-ga over, even though with their long blonde hair, the youngest one really resembled a girl. In the late 90’s, you couldn’t escape their song ‘MMMBop’. But where are they now? Where The Jonas Brothers will be in about five years and where many boy bands before them have ended up: split up and hanging on to music careers by the skins of their teeth. I feel a little sorry for these clean-cut, wholesome brothers, despite their fortune and fame, because, also like other boy bands before them, they think the crowds of adoring teen girls, movies, and endorsement deals will last forever, but alas, it never works that way.
So anyway, now that we know who these boys are, what about the boys of ‘South Park’? Well, they are foul-mouthed little heathens that get in loads of trouble every episode, so naturally the Jonas Brothers are not guys that they are going to like. This is especially true for bad boy of the bunch, Kenny. In the new ‘South Park’ episode entitled ‘The Ring’, he’ll be taking his girlfriend to a Jonas Brothers concert to try to impress her and probably get to second base (yes, he is supposed to be an elementary kid). Unfortunately for Kenny, the Jonas Brothers give the couple purity rings.
I can only imagine where it goes from there. This isn’t the first time the Jonas Brothers purity rings have become the butt of jokes; comedian Russell Brand irked many parents at the VMA awards on MTV by mocking the brothers’ decision to remain abstinent. So you can bet there will be a lot of hate-blogging following the episode.
All I can say about the new season of ‘South Park’ is: Miley Cyrus, watch out. Your star status, dating a much older guy, penning an autobiography at age 16, and being the daughter of the most infamous mullet-bearer ever definitely makes you a prime target for the ‘South Park’ bad boys, and after what they did to Britney Spears, I can’t imagine where they’d go with you.
