Ever since the release of the movie, “Cloverfield,” in 2008, there has been speculation about a sequel. There are many Internet sites that claim that they have exclusive information about, “Cloverfield 2,” but to this point, fans can run on very little other than speculation and deductive reasoning. This article is meant to discuss possible directions for, “Cloverfield 2.”
First off, if should be discussed that at first, J.J. Abrams was originally interested in producing, “Cloverfield 2.” A few months after the release of the original movie, J.J. Abrams was reluctant since he did not believe that he would be able to give the movie the treatment that he wanted. Recently, he has been quoted as being interested in pursuing the idea to see where it leads him. By the time that this article is being read, he might have flip-flopped on the idea a few more times.
It has been pointed out by many fans of, “Cloverfield,” that there is a set-up for a sequel in the movie. When the main characters are on the bridge attempting to leave Manhattan, a person can be seen on screen holding a video camera in an attempt to capture as much action as possible just like the main characters. It is widely believed that this person’s story is the one that would be followed in, “Cloverfield 2.”
There are many questions that fans had about, “Cloverfield,” that were not answered in the original movie that could be answered in, “Cloverfield 2.” Such questions include what caused Marlena to explode in the military safe house? Did the little creatures inject her with eggs? Are the little creatures the Cloverfield Monster’s young, or are they parasites of the Monster? Was the military actually successful in the destruction of the Cloverfield Monster? How did the rest of the world receive this revelation of a monster attacking New York City? Will a second group of characters see a third group with a camera?
Many fans believe that the question remains as to where the monster came from. If you watched the movie in the theater, you would have seen a secret scene at the end of the normal credits. You can see Beth and Rob on Coney Island. In the background, you can see a quick fireball come from the sky, and crash into the water. This means that the Cloverfield Monster came from space.
If, “Cloverfield 2,” is made, it can be assumed that the characters in the second movie will also not have been able to get off of the island just like the main characters of, “Cloverfield.” It can also be assumed that they were forced back onto the island and would have had to fight for their lives against the small creatures, and to avoid being eaten or crushed by the Cloverfield Monster.
It has been suggested that the new characters of, “Cloverfield 2,” will spend more time with the military so that movie fans can see what experiences that military has against the creature, and against the small creatures from the first film. This would add more depth to the overall experience.
It has also been suggested that the new characters in, “Cloverfield 2,” will be able to find another way off of the island fairly quickly and find that the small creatures are attacking people off of the island. While this could be a viable scenario, many fans will miss the extra coverage of the Cloverfield Monster.
Whatever happens about, or during, “Cloverfield 2,” we can be assured that J.J. Abrams will be ready to have another blockbuster on his hands. We can rest assured that if, “Cloverfield 2,” is filmed, it will be another wild ride that we will talk about for years to come.
