Being a mom myself to a three year old, and living in Florida, I know the importance little ones needing to learn to swim. Most children love playing in the water and with Florida’s great weather, swimming is a very popular activity here. Below is a guide to toddler swimming lessons offered in the great location of New Tampa, Florida.
Sharks and Minnows has been around since 1990 and has a great program that is really dedicated to teaching their students the love of swimming. They have classes for children as young as infants ranging all the way to adults and from beginners to advanced stroke classes.
If your toddler is just starting out he/she will be placed as a “Tadpole” in Sharks and Minnows. Here they are taught the basics of getting in and out of water, floating, jumping and returning to the wall, and swimming to the side.
Sharks and Minnows offers group classes, private classes and semi-private classes. All sessions are eight classes, with thirty minutes to each class taught. Classes take place three times a week for two and a half weeks. You can either choose Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday, depending on schedule and location.
Each class typically has between three and five students per class.
Sharks and Minnows instructors are very qualified with about 70 hours of training before each class they have to teach and they are all CPR certified.
If your toddler is under thirty-six months of age, a parent MUST be in the pool with them at all times.
When asked how long it will take for them to teach your child, remember that it really depends on the child and how well they adapt to the water.
For payment they do accept all major credit cards. Tuition is due in full by the time of registration. Students will NOT be fully registered until tuition is paid in full. The registration fee is non-refundable and any changes you need to make to the session need to be made a full 72 hours before the first session.
Sharks and Minnows does NOT offer make-up classes or refunds for classes that are missed so it is very important that you make it to every session.
Even if there is bad weather please make sure to show up. The instructor will decide if the sessions need to be canceled. If there is only light rain, then classes will more than likely still continue.
If your toddler is under the age of three or not quite potty-trained correctly, it is imperative that you put a reusable swimming diaper on them. They do not advise you to feed your child right before a session so that you are able to avoid accidents.
