Annapolis residents know that summer time means sun, sand, and surf. If you are the parent of a small child, however, summer time may have you concerned about water and boating safety. If you live a water-friendly lifestyle, swimming lessons are a must for your child this summer.
Thankfully, there are multiple locations in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and more specifically, Annapolis, Maryland, that offer quality swim instructions for infants, toddlers, and children.
Anne Arundel Country Recreation and Parks Swim Program
Anne Arundel County’s Recreation and Parks Department is the perfect first stop when you are looking for swimming lessons for your child. The department offers a comprehensive program, beginning with children age 3 and continuing through competitive swim activities into young adulthood. Classes are taught at a small ratio (5:1 for the youngest beginners) and last for thirty minutes. Instructors are well-trained and experienced in working with young children.
Swimming lessons offered from Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks take place at the Arundel Olympic Swim Center on Riva Road or the North Arundel Aquatic Center. Prices start at $70 for eight, thirty minute sessions over a two week period. You can both register and pay online, as well. If you have concerns about which classes are most appropriate for your child, a quick call to the Swim Center, like the one I placed last night, can answer all of your questions.
Kids First Swim Schools
If you aren’t able to fit the county’s swim program into your schedule, private organizations also run certified swimming instruction programs. Kids First Swim Schools are operated throughout much of Maryland, with Anne Arundel County location in Severna Park on Ritchie Highway.
Kids First Swim Schools are smaller, heated, indoor pools where children are again taught at a small ratio and in thirty minute sessions. Their classes begin at the age of three, and continue through teen and young adult. Like children’s swimming lessons offered through the county, they are taught by trained instructors. In addition to those classes offered, they provide private lessons that can begin when your children are too young to begin more formal instruction. Classes begin at $85 for six sessions, one a week for a six week period.
Look no further for beginning swim instruction that your own backyard. Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks and Kids First Swim Schools both meet the needs of Annapolis area residents. Help your child start their swimming career off on the right food with certified swim instruction.
