Children are often eager to learn about themselves and their family members. Why not teach them about the history of your family? Your children are curious and they will listen as you teach them.
Why is your families history an important part of your child’s learning? Family history teaches the children about where they came from and how their family became who they are today. It doesn’t matter if you child’s ancestors were rich and famous or slaves, they will be encouraged to learn even more by this.
When I was younger, my dad would always tell me about the things that he did when he was my age. I would always sit on his lap and ask him to tell me a story about his life. He would always tell me wild stories about how he grew up in a house with eleven siblings and the adventures that they had. I would then, get out the old photographs of him and let him tell me about the picture.
Grandparents can be a very big encouragement to teaching kids their families history. It is always magical to hear about things that have happened in the past and especially if it was long before you or your child was born.
Have your parents to pull out pictures of their family from when they were younger. Let them tell the story that goes with the events that led up to them being in that photograph. Your child will be learning about the past and the way that things where when it’s grandparents where younger.
You can also take photographs from when your mother was a child, from when you where a child, and from when your child was a baby, show the photos in a line so that your child will see the difference in the way that things have become.
Your child’s history will be great for them to use in projects like show and tell. They can show the difference in the photos to other kids and let them see what it was like to be a child back when vehicles where a luxery and not a neccesity.
Your child’s family history will allow the child to see how the world changed and how the things that we now enjoy, were not even invented back then.
This will also teach them about different places. Most families traveled a lot during the depression or during the gold mining days, this will allow them to see what it was like in different places. When you are explaining about the different places that you lived, you should also try to find old photographs and explain to them about the way that your life was back then and how that moment might have changed your life.
Family history should always be an important part of your child’s life. Family history and ancestory is what made you and your child, who they are today.
