It is vital for parents to spend time with their children. However, many parents feel pressured to do something big or expensive. This isn’t what needs to be done, no matter how much pressure is given from other parents. There are plenty of simple ways to have fun and spend time with children. In each of these articles, I’ll present 10 inexpensive ways to spend time with children. After you read this ten part series, you’ll have 100 different ways to spend time with children. These will go a long way.
1. Paint or decorate children’s rooms.
Decorating doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply have a “makeover” by moving the toybox and other toys. Make the room look different in some way.
2. Make milkshakes.
Children like milkshakes. Let them help by bringing and scooping out or pouring ingredients. There are many different flavors that can be made and many techniques to making them.
3. Play freeze tag.
A tradition game of freeze tag can be played. Different rules can be made as well to make the game unique. Let children decide on some of the new rules. Have fun playing and don’t worry about what the neighbors think.
4. Create a treasure hunt.
Hide a “treasure.” It can be some candy or some “coupons” to go for ice cream. It can be anything that would be rewarding to children. Leave clues or create a treasure map. Help the children when they get stuck.
5. Decorate a pair of jeans.
You can paint jeans. You can use a Bedazzler on jeans. You can make jeans into highwater cut-offs or cut-off shorts. You can embroider jeans. Be creative with your abilities.
6. Do a science experiment.
Science experiments don’t have to be complex. They don’t even have to take a lot of time. You can find little ones in books and on the Internet. You can even make some of your own by dropping things in water and using food coloring. Just let your children guess what will happen and then see what does happen.
7. Play games online.
There are plenty of sites that have free games online. Some require registration, but that’s usually all they require. Play these games with your children. Let them choose the types of games that they like to play. Enjoy playing with them and watching them learn.
8. Learn magic tricks.
Some magic tricks are complicated. However, there are some fun ones that aren’t so complicated. Some are printed in books. Now that YouTube exists, videos of how to perform magic tricks exist. Watch them over and over and practice. Don’t be surprised if your children manage to perfect these tricks before you do.
9. Teach them to play chess (or other games).
Teach your children how to play games that you know how to play and enjoy. If they don’t like the game, don’t force them to learn. They may even know some games that they can teach you. These can be board games, card games, or even games that just involve the body.
10. Create a family book with information about and pictures of each family member.
This isn’t quite the same as a scrapbook. Each family member can have one page or several pages. Include information like birthdays, favorite colors, favorite foods, and name origins. Let each family member write a story to be included in the book. Now these things can even be done on the computer and published online.
