It is vital for parents to spend time with their children. However, many parents feel pressured to do something big or expensive. This isn’t what needs to be done, no matter how much pressure is given from other parents. There are plenty of simple ways to have fun and spend time with children.
In each of these articles, I’ll present 10 inexpensive ways to spend time with children. After you read this ten part series, you’ll have 100 different ways to spend time with children. These will go a long way.
1. Take turns saying tongue twisters.
It’s fun to get speech confused with tongue twisters. Take turns saying them. Let your children laugh at you and at each other when you make mistakes. Try making up your own tongue twisters.
2. Sing songs.
Sing songs that you all know. Let your children make up their own songs. Sing songs that have a lot of “fill in the blanks” like Old McDonald. Change the lyrics to songs to fit situations in your lives.
3. Tell ghost stories in the dark.
You can sit outside with your children as if you are camping, or you can even do this inside. Tell scary stories and even use a flashlight for effect.
4. Build stuff with Legos.
Build stuff with Legos. Build stuff, really. If you and your children are concerned that stuff has to be recognizable, then use patters. If not, then just build stuff. Guess what those things may be. If your children don’t have Legos, find other stuff that can be stacked or connected to build things.
5. Give your children bubble baths.
Children love to play with the bubbles in the bubble bath. Just make sure that the bubble bath solution is gentle. If your children want, take a bath with them. If you don’t feel right about being naked with your children, wear a swim suit.
6. Play with squirt guns.
Squirt guns can be fun. Just make sure to set limits if you don’t want your house soaking wet. It’s best to play with these outside. Wear play clothes or swim suits.
7. Play video games together.
Video games are popular. Rather than just letting your children play video games, play with them. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t good at them. Children enjoy being able to beat their parents at something.
8. Play wiffleball.
There are certain rules and equipment. However, let children make up their own rules, too. Just have fun with whatever you decide to play. Wiffleballs are fun because they are more unpredictable than other balls.
9. Play Nerf football.
Even if you don’t really know how to play football, pretend. Throwing the football and hiking it can be lots of fun for you and your children. Have a few huddles even if all you are doing is telling secrets or being silly by saying nonsense.
10. Build a rocket from a kit.
Model rockets are a lot of fun. They can also be complicated. There are all kinds of kits to build model rockets. If you can, get together with others to have a rocket launch.
