This year I am definitely going against the grain. I usually start addressing my Christmas cards the weekend after Thanksgiving and after including a recent photo of the kids, adding a few personal notes to each card recipient and decorating the envelopes with holiday stickers, I have my Christmas cards stamped and on their way by the first week of December. Just before Thanksgiving, I spotted packages of Happy New Year cards along with the traditional Christmas cards at my local stationary store. I scooped up three packages and happily decided to give myself a break this year to allow more quality time with my family to enjoy the Christmas season. Here are some very distinct advantages to forgoing the sending of traditional Christmas cards in favor of New Year’s cards.
More Time To Enjoy The Task. Sending out Christmas cards should be an enjoyable task. By thinking about each and every card recipient and uniquely decorating your Christmas cards to reflect your family’s individuality, the act of sending out your yearly Christmas cards should add joy to the season. Unfortunately with the business of the season, sending out Christmas cards can become a dreaded task that is simply done because of tradition. By sending out Happy New Year cards, you can safely mail the cards at a later date and still be assured that your cards will arrive before the end of the holiday season. You can then relax and really put the time and thought into sending well wishes to loved ones that not only gives the card recipient pleasure but yourself as well.
Less Expense. It is often necessary to purchase extra holiday cards for friends or family who do not celebrate Christmas for religious or personal reasons. Not wanting to simply ignore those loved ones during this special time, we need to buy extra cards that simply say “Happy Holidays,” so as not to offend the recipient, and also to acknowledge their special place in your heart. By sending out Happy New Year cards instead, you have everyone that is near and dear to you well covered.
More Flexibility And Less Stress With Holiday Photos. If you are like me and enjoy sending updated holiday photos of the family with your Christmas cards, you know that it can unfortunately be a source of unnecessary stress at Christmas time. If you are having a portrait done at a photography studio, you need to ensure that you book a date that is early enough to ensure the photos will be processed in time to include in the Christmas cards to arrive in mailboxes before the holiday. By eliminating the need to book your portrait appointment by the weekend after Thanksgiving, you will have more flexibility within your schedule and less anxiety about receiving your holiday photos on time. Often, parents feel compelled to dress their little ones in Christmas finery for their holiday photos. By sending out New Year’s cards instead, you can relax about the outfits your children wear and simply include an updated photo of your family without the worry about what everyone is wearing. You can also take a fun and relaxed approach to the photo. Have the family members wear what is most comfortable for them and put silly Happy New hats on everyone’s heads. I guarantee that this photo will bring a smile to your card recipient’s faces and bring much joy to your card recipients.
Happy New Year Cards Extend The Joy Of The Holiday Season. People do not expect to receive festive holiday cards after the 25th of December. Time the arrival of your New Year cards to be delivered just after Christmas day. Your card recipients will receive a little extra holiday cheer that will help to alleviate the let down that many people face after the anticipation and excitement of Christmas.
Happy New Year Cards Are Unique And Memorable. Most families receive an average of twenty to thirty Christmas cards a year. Although much appreciated and truly special, few are specifically remembered at the end of the holiday season. By sending your family and friends Happy New Year cards, it is a given that your holiday card will be remembered long after the Christmas tree is taken down and the ornaments put away.
