Americans consume billions of water bottles each year, and most of these single use water bottles end up in a landfill. Another problem with these single use water bottles is that they can leach BPA or Bisphenol A, which is a chemical that is found in most water bottles and has been linked to a variety of health issues – from diabetes to cancer. Single use water bottles, also, over time cost much more than buying a reusable water bottle and refilling it with tap or filtered water from your own home. So, to help save the environment, your health, and your money, choose a reusable water bottle! I have listed several of the best varieties of reusable water bottles to meet your needs here:
Nalgene is a popular reusable water bottle brand, that makes several BPA-free products. They have created the NALGENE Choice website (http://www.nalgenechoice.com/) to help consumers choose the specifics they want in a water bottle. Their reusable water bottles come in a variety of sizes from 16 oz. to 48 oz. and a variety of materials, including polycarbonate (PC), high density polyethylene (HDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), polypropylene (PP).
SIGG is a popular brand of aluminum and stainless steel reusable water bottles. They have a variety of styles of reusable water bottles, including classic, sport, lifestyle, and kids bottles. These range in prices from $17.99 to $29.99. There are a variety of caps available for their reusable water bottles, as well, including sport, screw, ABT (Active Bottle Top), and kids caps.
Klean Kanteen’s reusable water bottles are made out of stainless steel and are available in two styles and various sizes. The sippy bottles have sippy style cap for children, are 12 oz., and cost $17.95 for the original style and $19.95 for one of their 6 “kolor” choices. Their other original Kanteen’s are available with sport, flat, or loop caps, whereas their “kolor” Kanteen’s are currently only available with loop caps. (However, you may purchase additional tops from their website.) They range in size from 12 to 40 oz. and in price from $14.95 to $27.95.
Platypus offers an unusual style of reusable water bottle that has a collapsible design for ease of storage, yet is strong enough to withstand freezing or boiling. Their products are made with a multi-layer laminate of polyethylene film and urethane and are available in 3 sizes: 17 oz., 34 oz., and 80 oz. Their reusable water bottles range in price from $6.95 to $9.95.
Love bottle offers reusable glass water bottles that are partially made from recycled glass, and the bottle caps are ceramic swing tops. They offer bottles in two sizes, 500 and 1000 mL, and range in price from $12 to $19. A fun fact about Love Bottles is that many of them are customizable – just check out the website for ideas.
All of the bottle styles I have listed here are BPA free and great for reusing. Many of the companies listed also donate to environmental causes. Check out each of their websites for up to date information on how they have been helping the environment, and remember, using a reusable water bottle allows you to help the environment, too!
