Depression seems to run in the family, has a lot to do with stress levels, using drugs or alcohol and at times has to do with having a baby. It does not happen all the time when these events occur, it happens randomly. If one of your parents suffer from depression there is as high as a fifty percent chance that a child will also have it.
What are the signs of depression in women? Of course, sadness is the biggest sign, but it is defined as a sadness that will just not go away, it stays for weeks or even months at a time. A depressed woman will not feel like eating, or she may cry most of the time over trivial things, she may feel guilty over things she has not control over, or feel hopeless. A woman with depression may feel tired all the time or not sleep at regular times, and may feel nervous or cranky.
If we women have any of the signs of depression or sadness that has lasted for over two weeks, now is the time to seek a doctor and get some medicine or counseling to help you feel better. No woman should have to live with depression.
The baby blues are not truly a form of depression. Many women feel sad right after they have a baby, this is normal and are the hormones change that result from the birth process that is the culprit. The baby blues lasts less the two weeks for most women, but if it lasts longer then two weeks you need go to your doctor.
Depression is a sadness that will not go away with a change of habits or circumstances, so if the sadness remains after you try to make your self-happy the next course of action would be to visit your doctor and either get medicine or seek counseling from a board certified professional. Women do not have to go thru life feeling overwhelming sadness or depressed, there is help for millions of women right now.
