In a previous article, we looked at the many advantages of getting married in August. This article will focus more on the disadvantages of getting married during the month of August.
Flights Are More Expensive
One of the biggest obstacles for couples and their families who are on a limited budget is that flights are much more expensive during the month of August than at any other time of the year. That means if you live on the east coast, but most of your relatives live on the west coast, the cost of flights will be considerably more expensive than they would be if you were getting married in November or January.
When planning to get married in August, there is more than just the cost of getting your family and friends to the wedding venue that should be taken into account. Each year as you prepare to celebrate your wedding anniversary, you will have to face expensive flights if you plan on going away for an anniversary break. August will always be the peak season to fly, so you may want to re-consider getting married during this expensive month.
Can the Children Make It?
Even though children will be out of school during August, will they still be able to make it to your wedding? This is a very important consideration for parents who share custody with their ex or for children who are only able to visit their non-custodial parent during the summer holidays. If this is a regular, definite arrangement, you will need to speak with your ex and see whether he or she would be willing to co-operate with you in allowing them to attend your wedding. If this is not possible and your ex has made other arrangments, then you will need to re-consider and plan on getting married at another convenient time so that your children can also be present.
Couples who get married in well known locations, such as Las Vegas, in August will need to take into consideration that guests who arrive for the wedding will not necessarily be focused so much on the wedding, but the location! A popular tourist location, coupled with beautiful weather can be great for the couple who are getting married. But family and friends may view this as their own personal holiday and not be as excited as they should be for the couple’s happiness. Are you prepared to let the location be the centre of attention at your own wedding?
It is really up the couple to decide when it would be best to get married. August might seem like the perfect choice for some. But for other couples, this month will raise more problems than it resolves. If there are too many reasons why August will not work for you, then it is best to choose an alternative month to get married.
