Vienna WV sets along the Ohio River and adjoins Parkersburg WV, the county seat of Wood County. Vienna is the retail hub of this area of West Virginia offering the Grand Central Mall (JC Penney, Sears, Steve & Barry’s, Belk, and Proffitt’s among others), Lowe’s, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and other retailers. Vienna has a host of smaller specialty retail stores along with the larger nationwide chains.

Vienna’s main road is Grand Central Avenue that runs through the city. Most of the retail and restaurants in Vienna are located on or near Grand Central Avenue. According to state statistics, Grand Central Avenue is the busiest street in West Virginia. Vienna is located near to Interstate 77 and Route 50.
One of Vienna’s assets is Jackson Park. Jackson Park is a city owned park offering a pool, playground, game courts, and a community building that is rented to groups or individuals for wedding receptions and other gatherings. Nearby McDonough Park provides a nice area for hiking, picnics, and watching birds and other wildlife. The park serves as a wildlife preserve and is used extensively by area students to study wildlife and environmental issues.
The nearest state parks to Vienna are the day use only Blennerhassett Island Historic State Park and North Bend State Park which is less than an hour away in Ritchie County. Mountwood Park is a county owned park offering a variety of activities, a small lake, and campgrounds.
Vienna is served by the two hospitals located minutes away in Parkersburg, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. A little farther away is Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio. Vienna is home to both elementary and junior high schools. Vienna students go to high school at Parkersburg High School. Colleges in the area include Ohio Valley University (Vienna), West Virginia University at Parkersburg, Marietta College, and Washington State Community College (Marietta).
