Everyone prays, even nonbelievers. Folks will ‘pray’ for their favorite team to win, for so & so to fall in love with them, and for a whole host of similar things. Those type of prayers, when prayed by a nonbeliever, are like the Pharisee’s prayer in Luke 18:11-The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself. God is under no obligation no answer a prayer that you pray with yourself.
If you desire your prayers to be answered, then you must first pray the most important prayer that you will ever pray. The prayer of repentance, accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Then as a born-again believer, your prayers will no longer be with yourself, but will be communication with God.
There are various opinions about God, His Love, His Mercy and His Grace. Folks tend to think that we are all God’s children, and if we live good moral lives, that’s all God will require of us and He will open the Pearly Gates for us.
There are four basic Scripture passages that outline what you need to know to become a part of the family of God, let them be your stepping stones to a new life.
First, The Bible says in Romans 3:23, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. All doesn’t leave anybody out, so we must start by knowing where we stand in God’s eyes.
Second, The Bible says in Romans 6:23, for the wages of sin is death. There is a penalty for sin. We are all sinners, and the penalty for sin is death. Is there any hope for us, any way of escape?
Third, The Bible says a resounding YES! Someone else has already paid the penalty for our sins. Romans 5:8 says, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. What great love Jesus has for us! What a tremendous sacrifice He made for us!
Fourth, we can claim the benefit of Christ’s sacrifice through confession and belief. Romans 10:9-10 says, if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 1st John1:9 says, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The most important prayer that you will ever pray is the ‘sinners prayer’, the prayer of repentance. A prayer from your heart in which you confess that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, that Savior being Jesus Christ.
After you had prayed that prayer, the most important prayer that you will ever pray, then you are a child of God, you will want to live a good moral life, and He will open the Pearly Gates for you.
