The Petra, A Mexican Street Food Restaurant in McKinney, TX.

by wet bin

My stomach was growling. I was hungry. Driving along Eldorado Parkway in McKinney, TX I spotted the building I was looking for. I was there to meet friends for our Ladies Night Out. There it was. The Petra. A newly opened Mexican Restaurant that I had not tried. Due to my increasing hunger I couldn’t wait to rush in and plop down and begin to munch on endless chips and salsa.

To my disappointment there was not any endless bowls of chips and salsa. However, upon ordering Quesadilla’s I was given a generous bowl of chips and salsa. It would not be endless but it was mine to eat and it proved to be more than enough.

The salsa also proved to be the best I have ever consumed. Absolutely delicious.

My generous plate of Quesadilla’s was only $8.50 and was overflowing with savory chicken and heavy cheese that literally gooed out of my tortillas. It was so incredibly, mouthwatering good. On the side my dish included pico de gallo, sour cream, caramelized onions and Mexican slaw. I was completely satisfied and can’t wait to go back with my husband.

The Petra was very clean. It felt clean and looked clean. Food and the festive, colorful dishes were promptly removed upon finishing the meal.

Prices were very reasonable, portions generous.

The cooking and grilling is done in the open for all to see. You can sit at the bar, where there does seem to be a steady flow of chips and salsa going, and sip your drink and watch your food cook.

We were able to dine inside or outside on the patio. We opted for the patio as the evening was cool and breezy and the patio was large and roomy.

Dress was casual style. Kids welcome. The kids menu includes tacos, quesadillas or sautéed beef or chicken.

If you’re craving fabulous Mexican food but just don’t feel like eating out, no problem, The Petra allows you to Order to Go!
