On a recent visit to the northwest corners of New Jersey, my wife and I were lucky enough to discover a completely different pace of life from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan just a few short minutes from our door. One noticeable difference from the Big Apple was the pace and attitude of shoppers. Nowhere was this more evident than at The Shops at Old Lafayette Village.
The Shops at Old Lafayette Village are nestled in the township of Lafayette, New Jersey and feature a number of famous name outlets, specialty shops, and eateries. However you are not going to find the usual kill or be killed attitude of New York City shoppers at The Shops at Old Lafayette Village. You can stroll and amble amiably around their vast shopping area and get whatever type of clothes, books, shoes, handbags, accessories, food, or nothing at all without pressure! The Shops at Old Lafayette Village were truly a revelation and should be seen to be appreciated.
In terms of women’s fashions there are a number of brand names at The Shops at Old Lafayette Village which may titillate and excite many. Bass, Geoffrey Beene, Izod and Van Heusen are just a few of the many fine names for women shopping at The Shops at Old Lafayette Village. Couple that with a new handbag from Jones New York and some shoes from Da Oggi Italian Boutique and you have got one happy woman!
Four men there are also shops of interest but two places I’ve found very interesting were the Olde Village Book Cellar and The Cigar Room. I imagined myself sitting somewhere, someday, somewhere far, far away and puffing on one of these wonderful cigars from the Cigar Room while reading a classic Dickens or Melville or Frost, winding down the latter years of my life. Oh if only!
The Shops at Old Lafayette Village also have a number of varied professional services including Habitat for Humanity of Sussex County, a Salon & Day Spa, and Weight Watchers; if that’s not enough variety for you.
The Shops at Old Lafayette Village also have an excellent trio of places to eat. On the day my wife and I were there we stopped into the Village Café and Deli and enjoyed a wonderful sandwich and some chips. We passed by Oh! Heavenly Sweets, for a number of reasons, least of which my imagining of getting caught up myself in these excellent sweets and never being able to return.
The Shops at Old Lafayette Village have a number of other places to go and a number of other things for folks to see. There is a Dance Center, a photo store, sporting goods retailers, toy stores, and antique stores; a literal panoply of things to do and see in Northwest New Jersey!
