The Three Stooges is looking for another cast member as actor Sean Penn decided to opt out of the film. Sean Penn was scheduled to appear in the Three Stooges movie, but has decided that he wants to pull out of his current films to focus on his family. This is definitely a commendable decision being made by the Oscar winning actor, but the rest of the Three Stooges cast is going to be searching for another anchor now. The Three Stooges movie is set to have a 2010 release date, and has garnered a lot of buzz for the cast that its creators and director have put together to this point.
The Three Stooges is looking at a 2010 release date in the United States, and is currently being talked about as an “in production” film. The movie is actually still in pre-production, as the cast is finalized, scripts are being approved, and other details about the film and its release are worked out behind the scenes. The movie is definitely going to be made, and was looking like it would be an interesting star vehicle for a short time. The movie will of course be based on the original comedy trio of Moe, Larry, and Curly (The Three Stooges) but with an updated flair and some great character acting by those involved.
The updated Three Stooges movie is a Farrelly brother’s film, as Booby and Peter Farrelly are writing and directing the film. The Farrelly brothers are pretty well known in the industry now, having worked on films like Dumb & Dumber, There’s Something About Mary, and Me, Myself & Irene. The newest film will probably be in that same genre of comedy, and they are bringing back a familiar face to help them sell the comedy. Actor Jim Carrey has signed on to play the role of Curly, and though it isn’t easy to picture something like that using just the imagination, it seems like another role that Carrey could easily pull off if he put the work into it.
The other two of the stooges were to be played by Sean Penn (as Larry Fine) and Benicio Del Toro (as Moe Howard), and it seemed like both an eclectic cast and something that people would want to watch all at the same time. They will have to replace Penn in the cast now, and hopefully they find someone who can be equally funny, though it would have been very easy to see Penn as Larry with the makeup and wardrobe worked out perfectly. This is a big set-back for the film, to lose Penn, but the show must go on, and the Farrelly brothers will just have to find a replacement that is equal to the task.
