With the lead in the upcoming Thor movie finally cast, there will be an interest in the God of Thunder. What better to stimulate that interest than a discussion of Thor’s excellent Rogues Gallery? Let’s count it down.
#10 – Ymir
Ymir is simply a Frost Giant who hates all other forms of life besides his own. Over a thousand feet tall with nearly limitless strength and durability, perhaps Ymir’s most fearsome ability is to regenerate completely from just a single speck.
#9 – Skurge the Executioner
Skurge has hidden feelings for his de facto employer, Enchantress, and will do nearly anything to win her favor. He also has been tricked into Loki’s bidding, with very little effort. Skurge is an Asgardian and has many typical Asgardian abilities, though he is slightly enhanced by his heritage. He possesses considerable weaponry skill.
#8 – Mister Hyde
Calvin Zabo is obviously based on the classic story, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This head case basically got obsessed with the story and created his own formula, which gave him superhuman strength and durability. Along with this, he actually kept his genius intelligence.
#7 – Kurse
Kurse is a Dark Elf, originally known as Algrim the Strong. He’s got a serious bone to pick with Thor, and does so at any moment he can. He possesses vast amounts of strength, far greater than even Thor. Kurse would perhaps be unbeatable if not for his weakness to the element iron.
#6 – Grey Gargoyle
Paul Pierre Duval is a French scientist who spilled an unknown formula on himself which turned him into a living stone statue that could in turn other things into statues with a touch. The statue effect of his victims only last an hour.
#5 – Wrecking Crew
Bulldozer, Piledriver, Thunderball, and Wrecker are the Wrecking Crew. A group of super villains imbued with Asgardian magic, they are all nearly indestructible and feature vast amounts of strength. They’ve plagued Thor for the longest time, and few outside of Thor can deal with them.
#4 – Absorbing Man
Crusher Creel was an ex-boxer who was down on his luck when he accidentally drank a liquid which gave him extraordinary powers: the ability to absorb and become anything he touches. Should Creel absorb certain materials, he becomes nearly undefeatable.
#3 – Ego, The Living Planet
One of the most frightening looking villains in comics, Ego The Living Planet is exactly what he sounds like: a living planet. He must absorb other planets to survive, and few can do anything to stop him.
#2 – Enchantress
Enchantress’s main goal was primarily to win the affections of Thor, but he’s found romantic interests in other female characters. As such, this Asgardian magical powerhouse has been a thorn in Thor’s side for ears, but deep down she’ll always have a thing for Thor.
#1 – Loki
Thor’s half brother is easily his greatest foe. Solely responsible for the formation of the Avengers, Loki is generally considered to be one of the strongest villains in all the Marvel Universe. Mentally, his schemes are nearly unmatched and he possesses physical traits similar to Asgardians. His magical prowess is off the scale, and at one point he was even more powerful than Doctor Strange himself. Loki is an incredibly masterful shape shifter and has set many schemes into motion with illusions alone.
Thor’s villains all pack a wallop. Which one(s) will we see in the upcoming film? Most likely Loki, but as you can see Thor’s entire gallery is excellent.
