The Triangle Inn, located a very manageable five miles from the city center of Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a cozy, welcoming place for gay and lesbian tourists eager to visit one of the Southwest’s most famous and attractive cities. Catering exclusively to the gay travel crowd, the Triangle Inn is actually a series of small casitas (“little houses”) on a beautiful property which includes a hot tub for communal use. Each casita has its own entrance, its own bath, and most have a small kitchen area where delightful homemade breakfast items and coffee appear like magic each day.
The casitas themselves are beautifully appointed. Some date back to the 1940s and have been recently renovated and some are new, but despite their age, each casita is well maintained and rustic. Adobe walls and surprisingly warm, lovely concrete floors decorate each little house, and the furnishings are very much in the Southwest style. Casitas have televisions but no cable and also no telephones to ensure peaceful, quiet stays. There is a phone in the guest house, as well as a wide variety of movies to play on your television should you be seeking a quiet night in the casita.
Though Santa Fe is essentially desert and privacy from trees is therefore hard to come by, the Inn’s hot tub is shielded from prying outside eyes by the lovely wood fence which surrounds the property. Always warm on cool desert nights, and never overly crowded, the hot tub can be a wonderful way to unwind after a long hike in the desert, a particularly vigorous horseback ride, or just a long day of sightseeing.
Upon arrival, guests are treated to an overview of the area by Karan, one of the innkeepers and a very knowledgeable source, as it turns out, of places to see and things to do in Santa Fe. After hearing about her guests hobbies, likes and dislikes, Karan is able to suggest activities which are particularly suited to them.
The Triangle Inn also has numerous reference books for the Santa Fe area including restaurant guides, hiking guides, and other helpful subjects. The Inn maintains their own “restaurant binder” which contains menus for some of the best locally owned eateries in the area, complete with hours and prices. Obviously, Karan and Sarah take great pride in being a part of their guests’ vacation planning and good experience.
Gay and lesbian travelers are extremely fortunate to now have a wide variety of travel and lodging options available to them. The Triangle Inn is truly a welcoming and warm place in a beautiful city, and is an excellent choice for any discerning tourist eager to explore the beauty of Santa Fe and come back each night to a rustic, private space that is just their own.
