Apparently Tyra Banks, as focused on herself as she is, is jealous of one person. During a promotion for controversial television show Moment of Truth last year, when asked if she was jealous of Oprah, she said she was not. Of course the answer was false, but Tyra Banks is slowly working her way up to Oprah’s position as the most powerful woman in America, and the torch will someday have to be passed. In fact, Oprah will soon be teaming up with Tyra to talk about one of the biggest, saddest news stories of the year.
That story involves two of the most popular, beloved artists of today, Chris Brown and Rihanna. Fans of these young artists were shocked when they learned that Chris Brown had beat girlfriend Rihanna to the point where her mouth filled with blood, told her he was going to kill her, and choked her until she passed out. Fans of Chris Brown tried to make sense of the ordeal, claiming that Rihanna might have done something horrible, or maybe he had just slapped her and the story had gotten overblown. But if the stories we’ve been hearing on all the news shows are true, apparently the whole thing started over Chris Brown’s own philandering ways; he had received a text message from a woman he’d been with before, and Rihanna was understandably not happy about it.
And now we’re hearing that Rihanna is back with Chris Brown, which has prompted a stern warning from Oprah to Rihanna: he’ll do it again. She plans on teaming up with possible successor Tyra Banks for a special episode focusing on the couple’s relationship, and we’ll be sure to hear a lot from Tyra, because for once she has Oprah beat at something: she got Chris Brown to talk about his past experiences with domestic abuse on her show in 2007. The subject is nothing new to Oprah, however, having been a victim of sexual abuse when she was young. But you can be sure Tyra will somehow make herself the focus of the conversation (Oprah would honestly probably be better off just doing this show herself; Tyra may be her replacement, but she’s not quite as sensitive and willing to listen as Oprah).
The show will air this Thursday, and is dedicated to “all the Rihannas of the world.” Let’s hope that Rihanna is watching. The two most powerful women in America may not be able to change her mind, but maybe Rihanna will at least take some more time to think things over before jumping right back into a dangerous situation.
