Getting to the ultimate bachelors pad has been years in the making, even before I was out of high school plans where being made that would eventually lead to the ultimate bachelors pad.
First the ultimate bachelors pad I fill is a studio apartment. A studio apartment I just always liked the layout having everything open and giving one big room. Another advantage which I really like is that it is cheaper and since I love the layout it really doesn’t make much sense to me to make a better place cheaper but that’s good. Even if you have the money for a bigger place saving the money will let you spend money on other things like dates, etc. Also the layout is great for a party.
Now that you have some idea of the space we are working with we will discuss how this ultimate bachelors pad is furnished giving the ultimate experience. Of course getting the ultimate gadgets like all a projector screen, the latest video game system etc is what all guys want I am going to skip those kind of items but I will say that an old school Nintendo with the power pad can beat Halo 3 on occasion so its not a bad idea to bring out some old school stuff. Another object which I like is an arcade, now they make them so they have tons of games I got mine from Dream arcades which makes them cheaper then any other place I saw you can even get parts so you can make one on your own or you can buy kits. A foosball, or air hockey would also be a great addition but will take up more room then a stand up arcade especially if you get a smaller sized one like Dream arcades offers.
The next thing that was cool and a necessity for myself since I am an athlete and used to box in college so a heavy bag is a must, you can even make your own stand with a speed bag, double end bag, and a heavy bag. I have seen these on sale but you can buy the metal yourself and weld it easily and make it stronger then the ones sold that cost more. It not only offers a great workout but it also serves other functions as well. When other people come in they also want to hit the bag it’s a compulsion you see a heavy bag even if you have no idea how to throw a punch you want to anyway, and it also makes a girl think hey this guy is tough and strong.
A must for any bachelors pad is a dartboard. It takes no room just wall space and being a bachelor its not like I have tons of photos of kids to put on the wall. Again it offers a lot of amusement and there is some kind of compulsion to use it. Since it is always there you tend to use it a lot and get good at darts.
As for decorating most guys don’t do to much decorating at best a poster of some pin up is about as good as it gets. Being a surfer from childhood I choose a Tahitian motif. Besides surfboards for decorations furniture is hand made out of bamboo. Bamboo is actually stronger then its wood counterpart, in fact some bamboo can have the same tinsel strength as mild steel. Having a theme is also impressive to girls and you will stand out in there mind after all they never saw a guy who had an actual theme or attempt at decorating.
Now we get to some of the good stuff. There is what I like to call the Dueling wall; really every house should have one. I went so far as to get a book of dueling from Dover publications. I have a coat of arms that is my college coat of arms on it which has the motto Veritas which means truth which as you will see works for the wall and behind that is two fencing foils, hung to the foils is a pair of boxing gloves, and on top crossed is a pair of Nerf pistols. The idea is if there is ever an argument like you are playing a game and there is uncertainty over something someone can challenge the other to a duel to determine who wins the argument. The problem is if you challenge someone to a duel then they chose which weapon to use. I never get challenged because my friends know I will always take the easy win with the boxing gloves and they know that one hurts the most. I do challenge whom I can to a fencing duel, fencing equipment is surprisingly cheap on eBay but such duels are not to determine anything.
The final thing about the bachelor pad is there is no “bed,” instead there is a hammock. Under the hammock is a bearskin rug named Humphrey after the Disney cartoon bear since he has the same coloring. For those who are Green peace types the bear was a family heirloom that had been shot on my grandma’s farm because it had been eating the cattle in the area so either lots of cows or one bear had to die. Also it doesn’t really go with the motif but who doesn’t love a bearskin rug? So it’s under the hammock and the hammock does follow the theme so it makes it ok. As for the hammock if anyone has sat in a hammock camping they know how easy it is to fall asleep in a hammock while some have said it might not be good for my back it sure is good for my sleep and I have had no problems with it.
I have had friends ask me if it would be ok to copy some things like the dueling wall, and the hammock bed and I have said it is fine. So if anyone wants to copy some or all the ideas fill free to and enjoy.
