Over the past couple of years the WWE has lost a lot of key wrestlers. The Rock left the WWE to be a full-time actor. Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin make appearances every once in a while but are retired from active wrestling. Chris Jericho, Trish Stratus, Stacy Keibler and Lita all left the WWE to pursue other things. The WWE released Kurt Angle, the Dudley Boyz, and Rhino. Christian Cage chose not to re-sign with WWE and went to TNA instead. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit both recently passed away.
Just when things didn’t seem they could get any worse for the WWE they started to suffer injuries up and down the roster. The WWE wrestlers have been injured sometime in the past few months include Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Batista, Edge, Ken Kennedy, Undertaker, Shane Helms and I’m sure there are others too.
It doesn’t stop there though. More recently many WWE wrestlers including Booker T, Ken Kennedy, Umaga, Chavo Guerrero, William Regal and others were suspended due to violations of the drug policy.
Because of all the absences the WWE programming has been very poor, I mean even worse than usual. Fortunately the WWE does have a few things to look forward to. WWE programming could improve greatly thanks to the following wrestlers.
If the rumors are true then Chris Jericho is returning to the WWE and is a much-needed asset. During Chris Jericho’s first run with WWE he cut entertaining promos that were second only to The Rock. Chris Jericho is a great ring worker and he has the ability to be a top face or heel in the company, a quality that most of the other main event wrestlers in the WWE don’t possess.
Ever since Chris Jericho left the number one heel in the WWE has been Edge. Edge has probably been the best wrestler in WWE or TNA in the past two years. Edge was put on the sidelines due to injury but it looks like he’ll be returning to action very soon. Rumors are that Edge is going to feud with the Undertaker at the WWE’s biggest show of the year Wrestlemania in 2008, which could be a great and unique match up that Wrestlemania has lacked recently.
Ken Kennedy looked like he was going to get a good push, WWE even planned on him winning the World Title on Smackdown. Unfortunately Ken Kennedy suffered an injury and the idea was scrapped. Ken Kennedy came back from injury and the WWE was planning in using him in the biggest angle of the year and reveal Ken Kennedy to be Vince McMahon’s illegitimate son. Once again the plans were derailed when Kennedy was suspended for violating the drug policy. Ken Kennedy’s suspension is almost up though and rumor is they’ll still reveal Kennedy to be Vince’s son somehow. This is all expected to lead up to Ken Kennedy feuding with Triple H and a match at Wrestlemania. A Wrestlemania with Edge/Undertaker, Kennedy/Triple H along with Chris Jericho and John Cena matches could be the best Wrestlemania card for the WWE in a while.
Back in the 90’s the Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, British Bulldog and Brian Pillman) had a great feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin and others. Now there is a second generation of Harts currently wrestling in the WWE’s development league. The new Hart Foundation is made up of Teddy Hart (Bret Hart’s nephew), Harry Smith (British Bulldog’s son), Nattie Neidhart (Jim Neidhart’s daughter), Ted Dibiase Jr. (Ted Dibiase’s son) and TJ Wilson (friend of the Hart family). Not only are they all (except for TJ) related to famous wrestlers but they’ve all inherited a tremendous amount of talent. Rumor is that the new Hart Foundation will be coming to the WWE roster in October or November. That could be a huge addition to either the Raw or Smackdown roster.
Shawn Michaels is one of those wrestlers that can have a good match with just about anybody (and by just about anybody I mean everybody except the Great Khali). Shawn Michaels is good on the microphone, he draws money, and he has great feuds. I don’t know how soon Shawn Michaels will be back but he’ll be welcomed back to the WWE with open arms.
Ric Flair disappeared from WWE television and there were rumors going around that Ric Flair had quit. Since then Ric Flair has gone on record saying he is still in the WWE but that he’s probably going to be retire sometime next year. If Ric Flair is going to retire then expect the WWE to give him one last push, which can only be a good thing for the WWE.
