Tens of thousands of people look forward to this annual event call the B-93 Birthday Bash.
It has been a local favorite for years.
With top talent and free tickets people flock to enjoy the two days of fun.
Year after year B-93 brings in surprise guest to wow the concert goers,
but this year’s surprise guest took everyone by surprise.
This year approximately 2000 people where stranded by flood waters.
A surprise no one wants.
I spoke with Tonia J. Shook of Allegan, Michigan and Tonia was not happy!
Tonia said that her and her daughter always looked forward to the yearly event.
She attended this year with her 15 year old daughter and her daughters 16 year old friend.
Tonia said that when the water started rising she moved her car three times
in an attempt to stay ahead of the rising water.
Tonia and the two girls where stranded outside the concert gates for over 3 hours.
They were not allowed back into the concert grounds,
and were not able to leave the parking area because of the flood.
So they were cut off from food, water, and shelter.
This was a very irresponsible act.!
Tonia and the girls were forced to rotate from a hot car where they roasted to get out of the sun,
to being in the direct sun beating down on them for hours.
Tonia told me at one point she was told by the concert personal.
That she could sink or swim,
Either brave the water and cross, or wait for the water to come to them.
After leaving the parking area.
Tonia said she was forced to do something she never ever imagined she would ever do.
Hitch hike putting her daughter in a car with a total stranger.
They finally got a ride with a stranger into Ionia, Michigan,
So they could find food, water and wait to be picked up by by Tonia’s parents.
Tonia’s car and all the other cars stranded are still at the flooded parking area.
Finally today B-93 has a plan to try to move the cars starting Monday June 29th to a staging area.
Tonia thought B-93 officials were irresponsible and people could of been hurt or worse died.
I personally feel that B-93 needs to bend over backwards to make this right for all the parties involved.
Maybe give out free concert tickets, dinners, whatever they can to make this right.
But that is just my opinion as a B-93 listener.
If you have a vehicle still at the concert grounds,
Then you can get more information at B93.com.
There is also information on reimbursement of cab, bus, motel fees,
and instructions on the current plan to retrieve all the vehicles.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in this tragic ordeal.
