Making the choice to head off to college is great. You get a taste of freedom, just make sure you stay true to your responsibilities. But also have some fun on the way. Photos of family, friends, and pets can give you something to look at and give you great memories to reminisce and laugh. Before you head off to college head to a store and pick out some frames so you can make the most of the new move. Hang some of these frames, put on your desk, or even make a collage. The possibilities on how to use pictures are endless.
Make sure you have plenty of extra minutes on your cell phone, this way you can call home anytime you need someone to talk to. Your other friends who went off to collage are in the same boat as you, in a whole new world. So do not hesitate to call them and let it all out.
Your favorite movie or book can be a great comfort buffer. A great comedy can really lift your spirits and put a smile on your face, maybe even spark the interest of your roommate.
Moms home cooked goodies are the perfect solution for a small time out. A move like this is stressful and Moms baking is the perfect answer, since it might be a bit before we get Moms cooking again.
Have an open attitude, you more then likely will be sharing a room with someone else so be ready to try to get to know them. If you are shy, I know how difficult this is, but just try.
Some extra cash is always good to bring, so you can go out and buy something you want. A little pick me up. A new shirt, a book, or something that you have wanted for a while that you just never got around to buying. This way you also start making your way around town.
Get to know your surroundings, take a tour of the campus and get to know some of the people. There is nothing more helpful on a new move then seeing a few friendly face in a sea of strangers.
Start unpacking your belongings. Make your new home more comfortable by making it your own.
Bring your friend or sibling with you when you show up. They will help keep you comfortable while being able to have some fun joking around.
Go out and grab your favorite dinner the night you move in. Things are going to be hectic so you can either grab some fast food, this way you can lay in bed and watch your favorite movie, or you can head out to a sit down dinner if you have someone to go out with you. Most of all just remember to try to take it easy and relax. The big step is over with, you are in college now and you have moved in. Now the work is ahead of you. Make sure you take some time for yourself and do not burn yourself out.
