Having a beautiful sun kissed glow can help you to look healthier and can help your skin to look smoother and sexier. However nowadays we are all aware of the risks of tanning the old fashioned way. As a result sunless tanners are becoming very popular for having a sun kissed glow without having to risk exposing yourself to the sun. Although sunless tanners are becoming easier to apply there are still some tricks and tips that will help you to get the best look possible without coming out streaky and orange
Before applying sunless tanner you should exfoliate your skin to remove any dead or dry skin cells. Exfoliating will give you a smooth soft surface to apply the sunless tanner to which means you will get a more even application. Exfoliating your skin can either be done using an exfoliating cream from the store or simply by using our washcloth and soap or shower gel. Another great way to exfoliate your skin is simply by shaving. After you have exfoliated your skin to make sure that it is totally dry.
To avoid having your hands turn orange when applying sunless tanner you can wear a pair of disposable latex gloves. If you choose not to wear gloves when you apply the sunless tanners you will need to make sure to wash your hands immediately after you are finished to keep your palms from turning orange.
Start at the base of your legs and apply the sunless tanner in the same manner as you would regular lotion. Use a circular rubbing motion and make sure all of the tanner is absorbed into your skin to help avoid streaking.
When you reach areas such as your feet, ankles, elbows and knees where your skin can be dryer use the sunless tanner sparingly in order to avoid having those spots appear darker or turn orange. After you have finished applying the sunless tanner to all parts of your body that you want to look tan, you will need to either remove your gloves (if you wore gloves) or wash your hands thoroughly using soap and water. Be sure to wash under your fingernails as well so that they do not turn brownish-orange underneath.
Allow the sunless tanner to dry for at least 15-30 minutes (until it is thoroughly dry) before putting on any clothing. If the sunless tanner is not totally dry it can stain your clothing and can cause your tan to be uneven. Also, avoid going in the water for as long as the manufacturer recommends on the bottle – usually about an hour.
Sunless tanners usually take about 3 hours before you will see the results develop on your skin. You may need to apply additional coats of tanner to achieve the darkness that you desire. With time the tanner will wear off so you will need to occasionally reapply it to maintain your healthy glow.
One of the biggest complaints that people have about sunless tanners aside from the streaking is that they can have an unpleasant smell. There are sprays on the market that work to counteract and neutralize the smell of sunless tanner if this is a concern for you.
