Self confidence is very important in achieving things that you want in life. Do you constantly put yourself down? Do you feel worthless and unhappy with yourself? I’ve written a few tips on how to improve your self confidence so you can feel better about yourself and about life in general. It may give you a better outlook on life as well.
Tip #1 – Volunteering is a great way for you to boost your self worth and confidence. Knowing that you are making a difference in someone’s life in a positive way can make you feel better about yourself. It gives you a purpose and meaning to know that you are needed and that your skills are being used to make life better for others. You could volunteer at a nursing home, hospital or animal shelter. You can even search online for available volunteer opportunities. Volunteering doesn’t require a lot of your time, so you can have time to do other things as well to improve your self-confidence. It can make you feel good also because you are helping someone and not asking for anything in return. That is a very wonderful act of kindness that should increase your self confidence.
Tip #2- If you are constantly comparing yourself to other people, you will only feel worse. Someone out there is going to have better hair, better skin, a better job, more money and nicer clothes. That should not mean that you should feel inadequate. You should use that energy you have focusing on other people and turn it towards yourself to build the life that you want. Remember, everyone has flaws. No one is perfect. You might have better things than someone else. Constant comparing will only drag you down. Live for yourself! Try, if you can, to achieve those things that you see in others, instead of being jealous, envious or angry towards them.
Tip #3- Take up a hobby/sport. Learning to play an instrument or involving yourself in a sport can increase your self confidence. When your mind is focused on something positive, such as a hobby, you are absorbed in what you are doing for that moment. With time, practice will make improvement and you will see yourself getting better and better at whatever interest you have. That will certainly make you feel like you’ve accomplished something and increase your feelings of confidence.
Tip #4- This is much like volunteering, but can be done in everyday life. Help people! For example, if you see that an elderly person is struggling with their grocery bags, politely offer to help them put their bags in the car or bring them to their house. Helping people with small things really can mean something big to the person you are helping. A little kindness goes a long way. In return, you’ve helped make someone’s life a little easier and you feel better about yourself.
Tip #5- Surround yourself with people who love and/or care about you. If you are lonely, try to get out and make new friends by joining a club online or offline that have your similiar interests. When you have social connections in your life, you build a support system as well as confidence in knowing that people love and care for you.
Tip 6#- Be a good listener. When you are engaging in conversation with someone, even your own family, it is important that you allow them to speak and be heard. This will make most people want to talk and converse with you because they know that you are listening to them. When you are talking to someone and listening, the conversation will flow better, thus improving your self confidence, because you are connecting with another person. You may even learn something new about them or find a new interest that will make you have even more to talk about.
Tip #7- Exercising and eating right will increase your confidence. Exercise will improve your mood and make you feel good physically and mentally. Eating right will do the same. There are people of many sizes and shapes that feel good about themselves. When you eat right, your body is not filled with all of the toxins of junk food or unhealthy eating habits. It allows for a more clearer mind and will give you more energy. When your energy and motivation levels are high, you may feel like your on top of the world! It might just give you the boost you need to accomplish all of the other things you want in life.
These are just a few tips that may help you to increase your self worth and self confidence. I hope it helps you!
