Setting up the crib for your baby is a very important task. The crib has to be secure, safe and clean for your baby. The first thing you must do is unpack it. Be sure to look at all the instructions that come with it and then take a deep breath as you to start this not so complicated task.
Of course, each crib will be a bit different. Yet, the concept of all of these are the same. They come in four major pieces, the sides and the front and back. They also come with springs, screws, bolts and these metal slides. This is why it is important to read the instructions.
Many people also choose the option of buying their cribs used at places like resell shops. This isn’t a bad idea because baby things are expensive and they do grow out of things quickly, even cribs.
If you choose this route, remember the crib won’t come with any instructions. Most cribs come with the same basic setup. When you setting it up remember one small piece of advice the springs must be set up in the precise order or the crib’s side will not raise up and down like it should. The bigger of the two springs goes on top and the little spring goes on the bottom. If you do it right the first time, you will not have to do it over and over again, like some people.
Okay, what is next after you have the crib set up and all the bolts and screws tight? You should disinfect the crib. This should be done if the crib is used or new. You don’t want your baby lying in germs; do you? First, use a mild disinfectant. Then wait a few hours and wipe down again with plain soap and water to get rid of the disinfectant smell. Don’t forget to wipe down the mattress, too.
After it has completely dried, now the fun part begins, putting on the crib padding and sheets. The crib pads should be tied outside the crib. This keeps the baby from messing with the ties. Next, you get to have the fun of putting on the crib sheet. It takes a bit of muscle the first time you used one. Remember it has to go on tight. You don’t want the sheet to be loose. If the sheet is loose, baby can wrap his or herself in it and smother. Check each corner to make sure it is tight. Now you can add the pretty comforter.
For the finishing touches, add a colorful and musical mobile. These are always fun for baby to watch. One more final touch is a soft teddy bear to add, as you wait for the arrival of baby.
Now take a picture of your pretty crib set. Once baby comes it may never look as elegant, again.
