Today weddings can cost the earth and many couples are getting themselves into debt even before they start off on the road to marital bliss. But does it have to be this way? I think not…… With a little bit of imagination and creativity that special day can be planned and executed without spending more than you can realistically afford.
First, choose a wedding location carefully. By choosing somewhere that is naturally beautiful like somewhere overlooking the ocean or a beautifully restored historical building you will save on decorations as the location is already stunning. Just add a few flowers.
Flowers for decorating and for bouquets and posies can be purchased on-line from a wholesaler. Yes, you will have to be a bit creative here as the prep work will need to be done but every family has a gifted florist in it and whats more they love to be asked to show off their skills.
The reception does not have to be a huge rowdy evening affair. Choose to have a quaint early afternoon wedding followed by an elegant tea. A menu of finger sandwiches, pickle trays and pastries is easy and inexpensive. Also by having an afternoon reception means you can save money by foregoing serving alcohol.
Should you choose to serve alcohol or have an open bar consider only offering wine and domestic beer with perhaps a speciality drink such as Pina Colada or Crantinis (Cranberry Martinis). Serving hard liquor will increase the cost as each liquor will require a mixer.
Well thats the location and reception sorted now lets look at the photographer. Many photographers offer packages but many of these packages involve options that are really not required. Make a list of the types of photographs you would like and negotiate with the photographer exactly what you want. Otherwise you will be spending unnecessarily on options you do not require. Be sure to take a group photograph as a keepssake. This could be negotiated into your personal photograph package and will take away the need to spend money on a guest -book (which rarely sees the light of day over the years to come).
Of course the Bride and Groom require wedding bands. Purchase a set. It is always more economical to do it this way.
Now to the dress for the big day. Rent one…….for a really great price a Bride can walk down the aisle wearing an expensive designer dress that will look stunnning. Just makes sense.
Same thing for the groom. Rent a tux and save lots of money that can be spent elsewhere .
Never ever allow well meaning people talk you into something that is not necessary. The day will be special and even more so knowing that your new life is not going to be started on the basis of debt.
