RMS Titanic, Inc. has entered into an agreement to present Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at the Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana, according to a statement released through PR Newswire. The Exhibition will open on October 6th for a limited engagement.
The exhibition’s artifacts were recovered from the wreck of the RMS Titanic, which left Southampton, England on April 10, 1912 on her maiden voyage, en route to New York. The Titanic sank on the night of April 14-15 after striking an iceberg; 1502 passengers perished, while only 705 were saved.
The Historic City Hall, located in downtown Lake Charles, was constructed in 1911 and provides a one of a kind opportunity to present authentic artifacts amid the architecture of the time. This Exhibition is specially designed to satisfy the demand of many museums that requested an Exhibition to accommodate their size requirements. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $5 for Seniors (65 and older), and $3 for children ages 5 – 12.
“The City of Lake Charles has the prestigious opportunity to be the first city in the tri-state region to present the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition,” Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu said in the press release. “We expect this world-class exhibit to attract visitors from within Louisiana and our bordering states, and to be an economic generator for our southwestern parishes.”
The region has sought to bring attractions and events back to the area following the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Exhibitions of this type, and the tourism and revenue they generate, are critical in the process of rebuilding the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.
“We are thrilled to bring Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition to Lake Charles and Historic City Hall,” Arnie Geller, Chairman of Premier Exhibitions, Inc., said in the statement. “This opportunity continues to demonstrate the strong demand of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition in smaller, non-traditional venues. We look forward to providing the community with the ability to view more than 120 artifacts in this unique setting.”
RMS Titanic, Inc. is the only company permitted by law to recover objects from the wreck of the Titanic. The Company was granted Salvor-in-possession rights to the wreck of Titanic by a United States federal court in 1994 and has conducted seven research and recovery expeditions to the Titanic rescuing more than 5,500 artifacts.
