Top 3 People’s Choice Award Winners for Favorite TV Drama in Television history Selection Number 1: The Waltons (Won in 1975 and 1976).
This Virginia family that struggled economically during the Great Depression and faced new challenges during World War II is one of my favorite shows in television history. I’m glad reruns of this program have been airing because I’ve been able to relive and appreciate more just how qualitative this program was and how full of substance the characters like Grandma and Grandpa Walton, store owner Ike Godsey, and “The Recipe” makers the Baldwins sisters really possessed. As a writer myself, I certainly could relate to the struggles and triumphs of John Boy Walton, though unlike him, I’ve never been that ambitious about writing books. Articles are hard enough to write for me! Besides being one of my favorite People’s Choice Award Winners, The Waltons is one of my top 5 Golden Globe Award Winners for Best Television Series in Drama in television history, which you can read more about at this Associated Content article.
Top 3 People’s Choice Award Winners for Favorite TV Drama in Television history Selection Number 2: Little House on the Prairie (Won in 1978 and 1979).
Once again, like The Waltons, it’s a writer who inspires this series, though unlike John Boy Walton, Laura Ingalls Wilder was real. Because the Ingalls family struggled financially, I could relate to them since I grew up in a family that struggled constantly to make ends meet. Yet despite his lack of wealth, Michael Landon was the kind of television father who was, for the most part, very understanding, fair, and had lots of great insights into people and life. One of the things I noticed is that when I watch this program, I can pretty much count on some tears happening sometime during the show from one or more of the characters!
One of the strengths of this show was that storylines often focused on townspeople or temporary residents who were different because of their disabilities or ways at looking at the world, creating a compelling favorite tv drama of mine. Yet it was the riveting supporting characters like Doc Baker, Reverend Alden, Nels Oleson and his troublemaking-wife Harriet, Isaiah Edwards, etc. that helped make Little House on the Prairie one of the greatest shows ever in television history, and I still watch this People’s Choice Award Winners selection today!
Top 3 People’s Choice Award Winners for Favorite TV Drama in Television history Selection Number 3: Dynasty (Won from 1984-1987).
I’ve always found the elegance of the Carringtons and Colbys much more appealing than the tomfoolery that took place at the Southfork Ranch. Blake Carrington really had a presence and authority about him in running the Denver Carrington empire (that name Denver Carrington is one of my favorite names for anything). Yet this program also paraded into starring roles such icons of entertainment like Diahann Carroll, Charlton Heston, James Farentino, Billy Dee Williams, Rock Hudson, George Hamilton, Barbara Stanwyck, and more, for the never ending storylines of conflict, greed, cheating, and high jinx! The characters on this personal favorite tv drama were never happy for very long.
But, of course, the show wouldn’t have been Dynasty without the great cat fights between Alexis and Krystle, who are two of my top 3 Golden Globe Award Winners for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama in television history, which you can read more about at this Associated Content article.
