Trying to keep an eye out for a group of pitchers to pick up for your fantasy team? I have put together some of the best pitchers in the National league that promise to have a great 2009 season as time progresses. Try your best to pick a couple of them up and you will be the star on your fantasy league.
Cole Hamels – A pitcher on the Philadelphia Phillies team, Cole Hamels looks to have a great year to follow up the Phillies great championship winning year of 2008. According to www.espn.com, he an amazing ERA of 4.55 so far and only seems to be getting started. If you can, scoop him up as soon as you can and set him for the home games at Philadelphia for your best chance to pull away a victory.
Johan Santana – This amazing pitcher from the New York Mets is a must have if you want to overshadow any other players in your fantasy league. He will give you an edge over almost any other NL pitcher and has great shows almost no matter where he is playing. According to www.espn.com, he leads in Wins, ERA, and strikeouts among all the pitchers on the New York Mets team.
Chad Billingsley – According to www.espn.com, Chad Billingsley is off to a great start so far with a 9-3 record for the Los Angeles Dodgers team. This team is destined to be in the playoffs with or without Manny this year and, behind the arm of Billingsley, they won’t have a problem winning there either. He has an amazing ERA at just 2.72 and is looking to improve upon it as he starts more games. Billingsley might even deserve the top pick in your MLB Draft.
Johnny Cueto – This pitcher from the Cincinnati Reds has one of the best ERAs in the MLB. According to www.espn.com, he has an astonishing ERA of 2.17 with only a 6-4 record as a starter. This shows that no matter how his team is performing, he will be able to come through with great pitching. This is an easy sleeper pick if you want to earn some extra points over your friends.
Josh Johnson – This player from the Florida Marlins has a great record at 6-1 as a starter, according to www.espn.com. He lacks the high level ERA of a top five pitcher so it may be easier to pick him up without missing out on a great player. The wins will give you extra points and his ERA is most likely going to improve as he gets better home starts.
