Tresemme is a pretty good product line. I’ve been using some of their hair products for as far back as I can remember. Sadly, the one I am about to review really doesn’t live up to all of its claims; at least with regard to my thin, baby fine hair.
The product is called 24 hour Body Root Boosting Spray. It comes in a very attractive fuchsia and black pump bottle that is beautifully designed to fit in the hand. That can be an important feature since many women often need to hold on to the bottle with one hand while they style or curl with the other.
The product isn’t expensive. It retails for just about $5, which is a bargain in today’s economy. It is also fairly easy to locate. It can be found in some beauty boutiques, beauty salons, discount department stores, and drug stores.
Tresemme says that 24-Hour Body Root Boosting Spray provides a weightless lift to give hair body and volume that will last throughout the day. Sadly, it didn’t accomplish either of those things for me.
According to its claims, the product can be used at the roots of each curl or it can be sprayed all over the hair to give the tresses more overall volume and lift. It also claims to help thicken the hair to provide a good base for any hairstyle.
I routinely use a root boosters when doing my hair with a heated styling brush. Most of the products I have tried actually do give my thin hair some body and lift. Unfortunately, this Tresemme product did not.
I also routinely use hair-thickening products to give my fine hair a bit more panache. Again, this product didn’t work for me.
Tresemme says that 24-Hour Body Root Boosting Spray does live up to one of its claims. It does stay in the hair until one is ready to brush or wash it out. That is certainly a good thing if the proper style has been obtained. However, it isn’t that good if it weighs the hair down , making it look lifeless, like in my case.
Wanting to be fair before reviewing the product, I asked a friend of mine to try the product herself. Her hair is the opposite of mine. It is thick, luxurious, and full of body.
As I suspected might be the case, the Root Boosting Spray worked well for her. It reinforced the natural body that she already had. She even discovered that by spraying her hair again once it was styled, the product held the hair in place without becoming sticky, gummy, or stiff.
So while the product was a fizzle in my case, it could work for other women with different hair types and textures. Perhaps companies like Tresemme should add disclaimers on their products that say “this product won’t work for fine hair” or “this product isn’t suitable for curly hair.”
Of course if they did that, fewer gullible women like myself would take them at their word and purchase the product only to find that it doesn’t work as promised across the board.
I have to give Tresemme 24-Hour Body Root Boosting Spray only two out of five stars. It works pretty well as a weightless hairspray for fine hair but it doesn’t live up to claims to add lift and body. Purchase at your own risk!
