Finding foods that three children can agree on can sometimes be a difficult task. One likes beans but not broccoli, the other likes broccoli, but not beans. Don’t even get me started on entrees! There is one dish, however that is a favorite for everyone in my house… Buffalo wings!
We used to go out for Buffalo wings often, about once every week or so, sometimes even more. We’ve tried Hooters’ wings, Wing House’s wings, and local wing joint, Mugs and Jugs. They’re all great; we can’t even say we have a favorite.
We’ve been on a budget the past couple of months, though, and going out to eat is now a treat that is reserved only for special occasions. We’ve missed our Buffalo wings, though, and it seems everyone in the house has been having withdrawals. On a recent trip to the grocery store, I found a product I hoped would rescue us from bland home-cooked chicken.
The product is Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce, from the Ken’s Steak House line of marinade sauces. In the store it was on the shelf next to other bottled marinades for about $3.29. I found it as I was looking for something to spice up a roast. We brought it home and decided to try it out.
I bought some chicken wings – lots of chicken wings. I’ve never actually cooked wings at home unless I was cooking the rest of the chicken. I’ve never really had a reason to. Why cook plain chicken wings at home when there’s no way they can possibly measure up to a greasy wing cooked at a sports bar or pizza joint? Maybe Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce would rescue us from our bland home-cooked chicken.
I cut the joints of the wings apart, separated them into drummies and that other part, whatever it’s called, then threw away the tips. I spiced them up, rolled them in flour, and deep fried them until they were golden brown and done on the inside. I placed the wings on paper towels so the grease could drain off, then I placed them in a large bowl. I poured some of Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce over them, placed the lid on the bowl, and shook them up until they were all coated. I didn’t want to overdo it with the sauce, so I added a little at a time and repeated the process a couple of times until they were well coated with sauce.
Now was the moment of truth. Each of my children and I took a wing and bit into it. Wow, we were all so impressed! Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce gives wings a true restaurant flavor, for a fraction of the cost! I could make all the Buffalo wings I wanted and not break the bank! I’ve since tried them on boneless chicken strips (excellent), and my kids use Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce for dipping pre-cooked chicken nuggets that I buy in the freezer section of the grocery store (that’s good too.)
Now that my children have to resort to eating my home cooking more often, they complain a lot less if I agree to cook Buffalo wings for them. Thanks to Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce, that’s a compromise that is easy to make.
