I am one of those people who likes to challenge himself. My efforts have led to me doing a lot of different things. Most of the projects that I attempt to do usually end in failure. I take everything in stride. This is because I realize that I will succeed at something. Last week was one of those days. I decided to try to make a gift basket for my mother. There was a huge difference from my gift basket and the ones that you normally see. My gift basket was bright red and also edible. Welcome to my how to guide on how to make a gift basket out of Twizzlers.
Twizzlers are one of the most popular candies out there. They are long, twirly like pieces of licorice that come in several colors. The basic color has always been dark red. I grew up on the candy because it had always been a favorite of my mother. That almost ensured that the candy would be in the house somewhere. This is why I decided to make the gift for my mother. The project sounds like it would be incredibly hard, but that could not be further from the truth. The basket is rather easy to make. Just follow the directions I am about to give you and your Twizzler basket will be made in no time!
Run to your local grocery store and buy yourself two big bags of Twizzlers. You might want to buy three if you feel that you are going to mess up quite often. Do not feel bad if you do. It took me four bags to come up with an idea between my mistakes and nibbling on the candy. After you return home with your Twizzlers, clear off a space on your dinner table and get ready to make your basket.
What you will do is take two Twizzlers and intertwine them. This is so that you have a thicker looking Twizzler. The ridges on the Twizzler allow you to deliver a basket look. Your next step will be to make eight sets of these Twizzlers. You will then take the eight sets and tie them all together in a large oval. Your candy should be springy enough to pull off the tying together. Trust me though, this part is where it can get aggravating. You may break several Twizzlers in the process, but do not give up!
You will repeat this process ten times. Each time that you make a new circle of Twizzlers is incredibly important. You will be applying the new circle on top of the current circle. Once you build it so that all ten are firmly on top of each other, your foundation has been made. What I do to ensure that the foundation remains together is the following. I will take the Twizzlers and build a circle wall (length facing up) in the inside of the basket. This can add a lot of durability to the basket for when you put gifts inside of it.
Your next step is to make your basic handle. This will require that you take five Twizzlers and intertwine them. You are essentially doing the same thing that you did when you made your circles, but only making half of one. Your next step will be to attach the handle to the basket. The best way to do this is by using your inner foundation to wrap around the handle ends. Believe it or not, you are now done! You have created a totally edible basket for someone you love! Throw some extra Twizzler bags inside of it and give it as a gift. The recipient will appreciate your effort and be pleasantly surprised at the same time! Enjoy!
