I love the fact that my father gets a hold of all types of software that my family and I can utilize from time to time. Some I have to pay for while others are free. My nephew is about to start school again in a few months and he wanted to get ahead of the computer class he wants to take this upcoming year. I decided to ask my father if he had any idea what typing software I could get that would teach my nephew how to type with ease. I wanted something that an 11 year old could learn from without having a huge learning curve.
Typing Instructor for kids was the first thing recommended so I tried it out. I had to buy
Typing Instructor for kids for $20. I found that to be decent for typing software so I went with the flow.
Once I got Typing Instructor for kids up and running on the computer, I had my nephew try it out to see how he would like it. He loved it and that made me like it even more. Typing Instructor for kids has a concept behind it’s teaching, which is Typer Island Castle. I like the idea that it keeps kids engaged and interested in the activities, while teaching them how to master the keyboard.
All of the keyboarding activities teach your child the proper hand positions as well as speed increasing drills. Typing Instructor for kids offers 10 customize lesson plans, 160 lessons in English as well as Spanish.
Typing Instructor for kids offers a tour guide when you first boot up the software which was wonderful because I wasn’t in the mood to really go through how to use it. My nephew got the hang of things once he got through the tour guide. The tour guides gives tangible instructions and if your child gets confused then your child can press the “say again.” button to get the instructor to repeat.
The way that Typing Instructor for kids works is that it gives your child a journey that can only be completed only as they progress with their typing skills. You child types through Typer Island to find the type Island Castle.
Your child has to get through five lands to get to Typer Island Castle. Once your child gets to Typer Island Castle, they can refine their skills by playing typing games and lessons. Your child can also unlock other games once they get to the Typer Island Castle which makes your Childs typing adventure more worth the while. My nephew sat at the computer using Typing Instructor for kids for well over two hours, trying to get to Typers Island Castle.
Typing Instructor for kids allows your kids to set their WPM goal, as well as the difficulty of the lessons. Not only can you set up your goals but you can also opt to use a regular keyboard or a split one while doing your lessons. I don’t think that feature is what got my nephew going. He was extra excited about the fact that he could listen to music while completing his lessons.
I think that the Typing Instructor for kids is a great way for your kids to learn their typing skills and the correct placement of their hands. It’s affordable and easy to use and your kids will love the interactive way it teaches them to master typing.
