Unplug Your Items to Save Money on Your Electric Bill

by wet bin

Saving money on your electric bill is always a great thing to do! However, you might not realize how simple it is to shave a bundle of money off of your bill. For me I was quite shocked at how much money I managed to save by just doing one simple step. The simple step that I took to shave off close to fifty dollars a month was unplugging some of the items that I have when I am not using them. What are some of the items that you can unplug while not in use to save money you might be asking?

The first item that you can unplug while it is not in use that actually uses quite a bit of energy is your microwave. Most of the microwaves that we have use a clock, but most of us also have wall clocks or other forms of clocks to. So even if it means taking a few minutes when you are ready to use your microwave to reset the clock you can unplug the microwave and save quite a bit of money that way.

The second item that I found that was drawing quite a bit of electric was my television even though I had it turned off. If your television is anything like mine it has a little light on in the bottom that has the name highlighted. Now after reading some material in the checkout lane at my local store I saw that your television using close to forty percent of its normal operating electric while it is turned off. So unplugging that alone saved me a significant amount of money.

The third item that I have started unplugging or turning off at the surge strips are the fans that I am not using in the room. My son has a fan that used to stay on all the time twenty four hours a day seven days a week except when it was being cleaned. Now, at the time I didn’t really think much about that until I unplugged it first during the day when he wasn’t in his room and noticed a small drop in my electric bill. The fan was actually the first thing that I tried unplugging to see if it would save money.

The fourth item that I have been unplugging is my husband’s playstation. Now you wouldn’t really think about it drawing power while turned off, but if you look it always has a light on somewhere on it. That means that the light is being powered somehow. So unplugging that helped save on my electric bill as well.

While your house might have some of the same items you will want to experiment around with items that you can unplug to start saving money. I know that just unplugging some items while you’re not home or at work can end up saving you some money. If you unplug them while you’re at work and in bed then your savings will increase even more!
