Eastport, Maine Sardine Drop
Eastport, Maine has a population of less than 2,000 people and was once home to fourteen sardine canneries. It is for this reason that the town drops a twenty-two foot long sardine to usher in the new year.

A giant eighteen foot brightly lit sausage that drops at midnight is the center of the New Years Eve celebration in Elmore, Ohio. Other events throughout the day include a sausage eating contest, sausage tossing, and a “dress your dog” costume contest.
