is past summer was once again full of sequels, remakes and adaptations. Among the adaptations were a couple of comic book adaptations; Spiderman 3 and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The comic book adaptations have been doing well so movie studios are going to continue to churn them out. These are some of the comic book adaptations that have started production and will soon be coming to a theater near you.
Iron Man is the next big comic book adaptation set to hit theaters. Not too long ago the trailer debuted and fans have been raving about the armored millionaire ever since. Tony Stark, the man who built and controls the iron suit, will be played by Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man is directed by Jon Favreau.
Punisher: War Zone
The first Punisher comic book adaptation was disappointing but a second Punisher movie is in the works for some reason. Punisher is the story of a man whose family is killed and at first seeks revenge but eventually decides to fight crime. Unlike other superheroes though Punisher kills people and has become a vigilante.
The Hulk is another comic book adaptation that wasn’t exactly great the first time. The first comic book adaptation of the Hulk had Jennifer Connelly in it and they still couldn’t make a good movie. Oh, but this time the Hulk is going to be gray. I’m sure that is going to make all the difference.
The Dark Knight
The upcoming comic book adaptation I’m looking forward to the most is The Dark Knight. Batman Begins was, in my opinion, the best comic book adaptation of all time. I’m not real sure about Heath Ledger as the Joker but Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine reprising their roles as Batman, Commissioner Gordon and Alfred makes it a pretty promising movie.
Not all comic book adaptations are really comic books, some are trade paperbacks (which are basically the same thing but they call them trades to make them sound less childish). Since it’s been popular to base movies on Trades it was only a matter of time before they made a comic book adaptation of Watchmen. Watchmen is basically thought to be the best trade there is and if you ask any comic book fan what every comic book fan should read then Watchmen will probably be the number one answer.
G. I. Joe
Okay so G. I. Joe was a toy and cartoon first but it was also a comic book so I’m filing this one under comic book adaptation as well. G. I. Joe is about a group of soldiers, all with unique skills, that are a special mission force to fight the terrorist enemy called Cobra.
After the successful X-Men comic book adaptation Wolverine has become even more popular and Marvel has decided to make a Wolverine movie. The Wolverine comic book adaptation will actually be a prequel and will take place before the X-Men movies. Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine. I don’t think Wolverine has started filming yet so Wolverine may be delayed due to the writers’ strike.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with DC Comics the Justice League is the number one superhero group in DC Comics, sort of like the X-Men (although probably closer to the Avengers.) If you know any DC Comics characters you probably know some of the Justice League because the main DC characters (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern) are members of the Justice League. They will all be present in the Justice League comic book adaptation as well as Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. The Justice League comic book adaptation might also be delayed by the writers’ strike.
