I have had more than a few online discussions with atheists. Often (but, no not always), they are intelligent, educated and able to think things through. Sometimes, the discussions become point-counterpoint debates. I find they can not only be interesting, but they challenge me to think more about what I believe and why.
Notice, I said “debate”.
I have had other types of discussions, some with atheists and some with professing Christians, and they were not debates. They ignored all evidence presented to them. They dismissed the Bible out of hand and without any investigation.
The God of the Bible revealed truth. He revealed it to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He revealed Himself to Moses, the ancient Israelites and various others down through history. Some wrote down their experiences.
The God of the Bible says to prove Him! We are commanded to prove His existence. How? Compare the words of the Bible to reality. Does it fit the world we see and know? If we put His way into practice, do we experience His blessings? Is what is contained in the Bible true?
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
~ 1Th 5:21
“Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
“Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
“Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
“Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.
“I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.
“Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.”
You can prove He exists. Are their fulfilled prophecies in the Bible? Why were they looking for a Messiah precisely at the time Jesus came on the scene? How close does the longest prophecy in the Bible parallel actual history? Who would have thought in the time of Daniel that a small group of squabbling tribes called Greece would unite under one general who would conquer much of the known world, die without an heir and have his kingdom split into 4 pieces?
Yes, God exists. His word stands sure. He will bring it about.
