Some of the beautiful sea beaches are available in the Northern part of the Gujarat state in India. Div is one of such sea beach, where you can enjoy all activities that you expect to enjoy at the most typical sea beach. This is the only sea beach in Gujarat state that offers various types of water sports. The lovers of water sports keep visiting this beach regularly. Div is a small island, having an area of around 40 square kilometers. Div was a very big port and very large ships were landing at this port in 14th to 16th century. Div was under Portuguese rule till 1961. However, the Portuguese society and cultures are reflected here even today.
If you want to come to Div by train, you have to come up to Veraval station by catching train from Ahmedabad. Then, you may take up a bus or taxi to reach Div. Div is around 50 miles away from Veraval and is around 300 miles away from Ahmedabad. The State transport buses are also running daily from Ahmedabad, Junagadh and Una. Div falls in the central territory that is ruled by the government of India and not considered technically in Gujarat State. There are many good hotels like Ankur, Apna, Nilesh, Gangasagar, and Harikrishna available here for the tourists. These hotels have tariffs in the range of Rs. 1000 ($25) to Rs. 2500($62) per day for double occupancy. However, we had stayed at the Toran guesthouse, run by the government of Gujarat.
The full cottage was available to us at the rate of Rs.1500 ($38) per day. Around 4 persons can easily be accommodated in this cottage. The management of Toran guesthouse also operates the water sports activities and you can get all water sports equipments on rent from here. The restaurant of Toran offers good food in many varieties like Gujarati, Punjabi, and South Indian. The charges are also quiet reasonable here. There is no ban on alcoholic drinks here as Div is under the central territory and not in Gujarat State. This is one of the reasons why tourists from all over Gujarat State are visiting Div all throughout the year.
Ahmadpur Mandavi’s sea beach is the most famous tourist spot here. This beach is really fantastic and offers white marble like sand without any rocks. You can play many types of water sports also here at this beach. The water sports gadgets are available on hire here also. The trained staff is also available during the summer season to teach you some of the water sports. There is a famous historical fort of Div at this sea beach. This fort was built in the year 1533. There is a sea on the 3 sides of this fort and the water canal on the fourth side. The view of the Arabian Sea from the top of this fort is simply out of the world. The fort internals are also worth seeing as its construction reflects Portuguese architecture.
There is a Saint Paul Church in the old town of Div that was built in the year 1691. Its architecture is worth seeing. The Gangeshwar temple of Lord Shiva is situated around 3 miles away from Div. There are 5 lingams of Lord Shiva here and a large statue of 25 meters height of Nagraj can be seen on the entrance of the temple. There is one small fort, known as Kudam church, which is situated in the middle of the sea. The local people call this fort as water fort as its shape is like a big ship. This structure is located on the big rock and there is a sea all around it. The view of the open sea from the top of this rock is mind blowing, particularly during the high tides. In addition to these, there are places like Chakratirth and Jaladhar that offer all the tourists the most calm and quiet atmosphere while watching the endless sea. Div has much to offer to all kinds of the tourists. You must stay for around 3 days here to enjoy the beauty of Div completely.
Make sure to include Div in your travel plan of India and I am sure you will not regret it.
