Do you feel as if your romantic relationship has become boring and mundane? Is the romance missing from your life altogether? If so, you may want to consider the impact your nose, and sense of smell, may be impacting the dynamics of your love relationships.
While you have probably heard of the science of pheromones and the role they play in the attraction of individuals to one another, there is a deeper and more scientific explanation to this process; and it involves and actual physical structure of your own body.
Known as the VNO, the vomeronasal organ, researchers believe it is this small part of our body that may be the underlying component responsible for explaining why opposites attract and why, in some cases, couples lose, and then regain, romance in their relationships.
The VNO is a sensory organ within the nose that detects and processes pheromones, resulting in the opening of the sixth sense gateway to our brains. With this process, researchers believe that when specific pheromones stimulate the VNO, a unique reaction occurs within the body. This physiological reaction is different for each individual and often results in a change in body temperature, change in appetite, change in sex drive and even a change in metabolism. When two individuals stimulate the VNO of one another, there is usually a spark of interest, romantic involvement and a deeper connection.
Once these physiological changes occur, individuals who experience a stimulation of the VNO also experience a change in brain and thought processes in the region believed to house the sixth sense. This region of the brain, responsible for interpreting sensory cues, is quickly stimulated, often well before our logical part of the brain is unleashed.
In relationships where pheromones and VNO stimulation once created romance, love and even led to commitment and marriage, we often see this same relationship fall apart. Researchers believe this is attributed to one, or both, of the individuals in the relationship has allowed the logical part of the brain to overcome the sixth sense. When applying logic and thinking, the sixth sense of the brain is unable to function as it normally would, resulting in complications.
The recommendation, therefore, is to simply not think so much. Do not overanalyze your relationship but, instead, simply go with your emotions and let your nose guide your way. In a relationship where pheromones once guided you into each other presence, you must continue to allow the pheromones to continue to guide the relationship. It is when the thinking and analytical gateways of the brain open up that the vomeronasal organ, while still continuing to do its job, struggles to send signals to the sixth sense of the brain, ultimately destroying romance in your relationship.
