When you are planning a wedding there are thousands of small details that you have to keep track of even when you hire a wedding planner. If you are planning your wedding then the first that you will want to do is set up your wedding planning journal. This journal will help you to track your wedding plans and help you to keep a handle on your wedding.
What Is a Wedding Planning Journal?
A wedding planning journal is a book or folder that keeps all of your wedding plans organized. Small weddings can be tracked in a spiral notebook, however, medium to large sized weddings are better served by a three ring binder with section dividers. The goal of your journal is to basically just keep your organized and to keep all of your paperwork in one place.
Parts of a Wedding Planning Journal
A wedding planning journal will generally be divided into several sections. The first page of your wedding planning journal will be your to do list. This list needs to include a description of the activity that needs to be done, as well as a deadline date posted next to the description. Next you will need a calendar with important dates for you to remember, such as dress fittings, meetings with the florist, dance lessons and dates for when deposits and payments need to be delivered to vendors.
The next sections of your wedding planning journal will focus on specific aspects of your wedding. For example, you will have one section for your wedding venue, one section for your caterer, one section for your music and one section for your guests. Each section will contain information that relates to the section topic. For example, your wedding venue section will include brochures and booking information about the location for your wedding and reception, receipts and lists of items that need to be purchased or rented for your venue. Most of your paperwork can be three hole punched and filed in your three ring binder. However, to keep track of receipts and other smaller pieces of paper you will want to pick up a pocket insert for each section. These inserts will keep your receipts and smaller papers from falling out of your planner.
At the back of your wedding planning journal you will want to keep two things. First you will want to keep a copy of your wedding budget at the back of your planner. The budget will have four columns. The first column will be a description of the cost, the second column will be your estimated budget for the cost, the third column will be the actual cost for the item and the final column will tally the difference between your budgeted amount and your actual amount. The second thing that you will want to keep in the back of your wedding planner is a checklist. This checklist will include an entry for everything that you need to do before your wedding. As you complete each task you ca check it off. This tool is used to help keep you up-to-date with what has been done and what needs to be done.
