Despite what many people may think, truthfully, Walmart actually isn’t that bad a place to be employed. I admit, the work isn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but I Iike the other people who are employed there and the friendly enviornment.
Walmart helps you to advance to better positions very quickly. You could be a buggy-boy one year and a store manager the next. Seriously, its that easy. I’m not over exaggerating. The catch is, as you move up from one position to the next, the pay only goes up about ninety cent. In some cases, pay can increase about a dollar and thirty cent. This is added on to bonuses which occur about four times a year.
The benefits at Walmart are not too bad. At least it’s not as bad as people portray it to be. Part time employees are not eligible for dental benefits, but are eligible for health benefits after a certain time. Full- time associates also have a waiting period. On the other hand, Walmart employees receive a 20% discount on all items in the store except clearence items and food other than produce. That comes in handy with that big screen T.V. or laptop. THe discount used to start with the date of employment, but that stopped when people just applied to get the discount then later quit the job. Now, it’s reqired for employees to wait 90 days before receiving a discount card. Associate discounts are not limited to the store. Employees also receive discounts at places such as AT&T, Sixflags Theme Parks, hotels, picture studios, car rentals, and plenty more. They also recieve a discount on stocks purchased from walmart , but there are more benefit than just the material things
All the employees are extra nice. It’s like they go out of their way to be very friendly like they’ve known you for years. Even the management is like that. At previous jobs I’ve worked at I would always seem to run into that member of management with the broom stuck up his or her butt, but the management that works in Walmart gets the job done, but is very goofy and fun about it. They show you how they are on your first day in orientation.
Most people at Walmart work two jobs. If you ask anyone working there, more than likely, thy’re juggling two or more jobs. Maybe the pay is too low to support a family at the beginning of employment or people love the enviornment so much that they want to experienece another job, but they don’t want to leave Walmart. That’s probably why people are always seen there who have been there for 10 to 20 yeas.
Overall, as a summer job, Walmart is an excellent place to be.I don’t know just yet if it could be a possible career, but its very fun, you never run out of things to do, and time flys. The people who work there are very friendly and inviting. I love working at Walmart for now.
