You see them in newspapers now many advertising “seminars” on health conditions. Pictured and named are physicians. You may see further in the ad “Board Certified.”
On “Board Certified” Always inquire as to what board and if your state honors that certification. A doc can be present at a four hour seminar and he or she can receive a fine certificate indicating board certification.
It has always struck me that with vision improving laser surgery that a doc will advertise a price per eye. These are your eyes. They do not grow back, regenerate, and never will be replaced as yet to this writing. Ask yourself if there is an analogy between your eyes and the purchase of a used car. An opinion is this. If a group of docs feel compelled to advertise the services which they provide how good are they?
A good doctor will not be upset or offended if you want a second opinion. The patient should have a doctor one in mind though, prior to asking for a second opinion. Your own doctor may advise you to get a second opinion, that is for you as well as for them. Asking a doctor if he or she knows for a second opinion is silly to me because if you get a name from a doc from someone the doc know is like asking Brittany if she has a drivers license. Use your head. Best referrals in this writers opinions comes from direct knowledge of nurses, good friends, and relatives. Oh “Hes good.” just may not be enough. Or “I’ve heard of him.” It is your life. I’ll say this again and again. CHOOSE YOUR DOCTOR LIKE YOU CHOOSE YOUR CHURCH.
Sometimes docs move or get transferred. Most of the time if that happens who you see is up to you and your carrier, not to the incoming group. Don’t let that pull that crap on you. We do not have Canadian or European helthcare here yet. Again choose your doctor like you choose your church. Do not choose a doc like you would a Whopper or a Big Mac?
Dentists are a different story. They are slowly reimbursed. They are real doctors. Many demand pay for services prior to the service. It feels like you are buying a new car before you ever drive it. Ask yourself and them why this is. Make them explain that. When I see a dentist I feel like I am goings to Neiman Marcus and have to pay for items before I even am allowed to go in. NEVER BE AFRAID TO ASK ABOUT CHARGES. Ask anyone who has wealth if they buy something unseen.
Two Sides To Any Story:
Keep in mind docs get emergency’s they have family’s there cars even break down. I have had doc’s apologies to me for the wait. You want a doc to be honest and in my experience they are. Part of many problems with doctors, patients and hospitals is everyone seems to hold these folks at a higher level than everyone else, and they should be perfect. “Fo get abod it.” Society defends athletes on steroids, but we get mighty pissed off at the medical community for a lot less.
Basically doctors: They are you and me and but have the stones and the opportunity to want to help us. Would you want to be a doctor?
You would not want there job and admit it you think you may cause the money is good. Money is never a reason to become a doctor. I had a very good friend as a doctor I worked with. He died about a year after he retired, and with all his assumed wealth you cannot take green with you. All he talked of was spending time with his plants working them with the art of Bonsai. He never really had the chance. I have known over the years several doctors who have died when there work was done. Retirement is death for many doctors, often as it is for us, but much faster. How would you like to be looking up rectums all day? Treating bed sores, burns, and unbelievable trauma? All while being threatened physically and legally at least once a week? Threats come from friends and families not just the patient. Pick your battles not your nose.
It is extremely hard to sue a doc. many docs contribute to political parties, as do many attorney’s. Doc’s are human beings. many good doc’s make serious mistakes. An honest one will be very upfront with you. Physician’s generally do not set out to hurt you. Accidents can and will happen. Determine the level of your realistic expectations of a human being. I had a roof contractor once and a good one at that. The man is standing on a dark roof two stories high. He sweats like copper pipe does in the winter. He finishes the roof looks down the smoke stack to clean it and pulls out a dead crow. Now prior to that he never fell, he lost a lot of water weight and it took many hours to complete the repair. Yet he pukes at a dead crow. Try not to go into a doctors office thinking of your doctor as a dead crow that makes you sick. A doc worth suing ain’t worth seeing. If you hear over and over that your doc is getting sued, why are you still seeing him. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck than maybe its a duck. Put your own life in your hands first than find a doc you trust for that same purpose.
