Every man’s – or woman’s – home is a castle, and what better way to protect that castle with your very own gargoyle? Old cathedrals had gargoyles as “watchers” but more accurately, to provide drainage from rainstorms. Of course, you don’t have to have any gargoyles perched on the roof of your home, but they can look fabulous in your garden or even on your front porch, flanking the entry to your front door. Below are five different sources on the Internet where you can find the perfect gargoyle for your garden:
The Garden Decor Store(1) has a number of gargoyle statues ranging between $20.00 and $900.00. The materials used in making these gargoyles are: fiberglass, fiberstone, and cast stone. Any one of these gargoyles is sure to feel at home in your garden. My personal picks: Gargoyle on the Globe for $899.10, Meditating Beast Outdoor Garden Statue for $26.40, and the Beware of Gargoyles statue for $31.20. Visitors won’t have to look for any “Beware of Dog” signs with this latter one posted in the front yard.
Gargoyle Statuary(2) in Seattle offers gargoyles made of concrete or resin with names like Dedo, Boris, and Igor. Not too many statuary companies offer garden statues with personal names. They even have a screaming dragon statue for $86.00 that you can name Pendragon. My picks: Boris the Thinker for $56.00, and the medium sized Dedo for $42.00. These guys will quickly make friends with you.
Fine Garden Products Company(3) has some of the best gargoyles around. These dry cast stone ornaments look like they have been carved by hand just for your garden. My picks: the Argus Panoptes Gargoyle for $131.40, the Reclining Gargoyle for $101.70, and the St. Johns Gargoyle for $112.50. The reclining gargoyle looks like he is sleeping. Stick him by your flower bed for a realistic effect.
Wild Birds Etc.(4) has a winged gargoyle perched on a pedestal. Made of alabastrite, he is designed after the Medieval style. The pedestal is ornate with scrollwork. Priced at $14.95, you can’t go wrong with this guy: he will come into your heart, not just your garden.
Exterior Accents(5) has several winged gargoyles made of fiberstone. The Solar Gargoyle for $39.95 has eyes that will light up from the natural exposure to the sun. Well, his eye “beams” will guide you safely past your front door when you come home at night from work or a dinner party. The Caesars Griffin Statue is $119.95 and just like its name, has a griffin head. This guy comes in four different finishes to choose from: white moss, sandstone, verde, and white.
