The Playstation 3 exclusive Infamous and the multiplatform title Prototype are constantly being compared. You won’t go too far into a conversation without some one mentioning the other game when discussing either Infamous or Prototype. So why these two anticipated titles can’t be separated? Well, it is hard to when Infamous and Prototype share so much in common.
Infamous is developed by Sucker Punch Productions, who previously worked on the Sly Cooper series. Prototyped is being developed by Radical Entertainment. While they have a longer and more diverse history than Sucker Punch Productions, their last two titles were Crash of the Titans and Crash: Mind over Mutant. So before both companies went on to develop their upcoming video games, they were working on platforming games that cater to mainly children.
Both Infamous and Prototype are open world sandbox titles similar to Grand Theft Auto. In Infamous, you explore the gang-infected world of Empire City. In Prototype, you get to venture out to the open world of New York City. You are given huge virtual sandboxes to explore and experiment with in these two upcoming games. If you choose so, you can cause plenty of havoc to the world and the citizens in Infamous and Prototype.
Super Hero Powers
The difference between Grand Theft Auto and these two titles are the superhero powers.
You play as Cole in Infamous. After having a mysterious package exploding on him, he gained new electrical powers. The entire game is based on his new found electric abilities, from his attacks to transportation options to his weaknesses.
The premise is pretty much the same in Prototype. Alex Mercer woke up in the middle of an experiment. He has no recollection about his past. In return he acquires newfound shape shifting powers. Like Infamous, Prototype is based completely from this super power as you can run and jump to great lengths in addition to disguising yourself as an enemy using the shape shifting powers.
Infamous and Prototype are both superhero video games set in a sandbox world.
Release Time Frame
The eerie similarity doesn’t end there. Infamous and Prototype were both supposed to be released in 2008. However, both titles got delay into 2009. Initially, Infamous and Prototype was scheduled for the same June release month. However, Infamous was recently moved up to late May. Still, the similar titles will only be released two weeks apart.
So while Infamous and Prototype may have some major differences, these titles are too similar to escape direct comparisons.
