Many of us fall victim to the senseless snacking, we all seem to come across that feeling of needing to eat something even though we are not hungry, others may snack for comfort. Snacking may be comfortable but incessant snacking could leave you with a few pounds, it may also stir you into the direction of overeating. The best way to prevent incessant snacking is to eat in rhythm with your stomach Below are some reasons why a person ma overeat and how to prevent; In many cases we respond to
Bored- You are at home or at work and then the suffocating feeling of boredom come over you and to help curb boredom you prepare yourself your favorite snack. There is nothing like a bag of Doritos and a few Oreos to help the time go by. Instead of reaching for a snack the best way to help curb boredom is to engage in a different activity, if you are at work that will be impossible, so to help you curb boredom at work, make a point to treat yourself after work, and during work think of all the different places that you might want to take yourself after work, anticipation will help time fly.
Watching television- those who watch television or a movie will definitely get the urge to eat something whether big or small, heavy or light. It is not great to watch television and snack because so intrigued by the program on the television, you might become unaware of how much food you actually consumed. If you must eat while watching television opt for a nice bowl of natural popcorn and an 8 ounce glass of juice or water this should fulfill your snacking cravings.
Stay in house- If you stay in the house more than usual you will be more prone to eat, you also have unlimited access to your refrigerator all day. To prevent constant snacking spend at leat half of your day out doing something that you enjoy. Instead of heading back home for snack time, pack a snack with you and eat it outdoors.
Comfort- You might turn to food if you are sad or are grieving. Food, snacking is not the answer; your emotions should be looked at and dealt with not pushed into the background by food. In times where you may be experiencing sorrow, or ant emotional problem it is always nest to talk with someone whether it be family, friends, or a counselor. Remember food does not make your problems go away, it only suppresses the emotions and enhance the situation.
Stress- Stress affects people differently, some people’s hair fall out, they loose sleep, others might not eat at all, or some will eat by the hour. Stress brings along a lot of unwanted emotions that are hard to restrain, so many turn to food because it has the ability to make a person feel good and content. If you are under stress it will be best to seek professional intervention or support form family and friends.
Low self esteem, low self worth- You may be at your ultimate low and that big Cadbury milk chocolate bar on top of the fridge seems to be your only friend, and you consume it, all the while forgetting that feeling of self worth. The problem with eating because you have low self worth is, that the food suppresses that moment for a short period of time, and after the food is finished you will all of the sudden remember that you feel worthless, and this pattern will continue again. If you feel like this, get out, look inside of yourself for the things that you do good, applaud yourself, put on a free show that showcases your talent.
The best way to prevent incessant snacking which can lead to overeating and then obesity, is to eat in rhythm with your stomach which means take notice of the clues your stomach gives you to tell you when it is hungry, wait until then to eat ( unless you are diabetic.) A sign that your stomach is hungry of course would be a growl, and you should then act on that growling noise and feed your child. Try not to eat until you are truly hungry. To avoid overeating build yourself an eating schedule; set a time for when you will have breakfast, snack, lunch, and dinner. Eating by schedule will help your stomach expect what time to eat
