Most elementary schools offer a school book fair several times throughout the school. The school library is set up as a mini book store where children can purchase books and other items at affordable prices. The proceeds from the book fair help to pay for school activities and programs throughout the year. Volunteering at your child’s school is extremely important, no matter what capacity you choose to do so. I find it extremely rewarding and beneficial to the students to volunteer my time at my children’s school book fair each year. This article will explain the many reasons why you should volunteer an hour of more of your time for your child’s book fair.
Your Child’s School Is Always In Need of Volunteers. With the large majority of children’s families being dual career entities, schools often have a very difficult time getting an adequate amount of parents to volunteer their time at school functions. Whether you can volunteer an hour or several, your time is always much appreciated. If you have never volunteered before, or simply have a limited time to do so, the school book fair is an excellent opportunity to give a little bit of yourself to your child’s school community.
Reading Is Paramount To Your Child’s Education. Developing an early habit of regular reading is extremely important to your child’s scholastic achievement. The more your child reads, the better their verbal and writing skills will be. Reading is fundamental to every child’s success in school. What better way to impart your love of books and the value you place on reading than volunteering at your child’s school book fair?
The Younger Children Need Help Finding Their Books And Making Change. Often times, parents send in an order form with the book they want their child to purchase indicated on it. With so many books set up on display, the Kindergartners, First and Second graders often need help in locating the correct book that they are authorized to buy. With an entire class let loose at the book fair, the more volunteers to help the children find their desired book the better. The children often have a few pennies left over from their book purchase and have enough to buy a pencil or book mark and need help in figuring out exactly what they need and how much money they need to return home to their parents.
The Book Fair is Fun! With posters, tons of great books, fun pencils, erasers, highlighters and bookmarks to purchase, the children absolutely love the book fair. Their enthusiasm and excitement is infectious and makes the book fair a very enjoyable experience for everyone.
Your Child Always Enjoys Seeing You At School. Whether your child is in Kindergarten or fourth grade, it is always a treat for your child to see you at their school. Older children may not let it show and run up to you with a hug like the younger ones will, but rest assured, it is meaningful to them to have you taking time out of your day to spend it at a school event.
Whether you are an old hand at volunteering at your child’s school or a new parent just getting their feet wet, volunteering at your child’s school book fair is an excellent way to share your time and make a difference at your child’s school.
