Everyone has a dream of something they would eventually like to do or see. It is simply part of human nature to foster such dreams, and truthfully what would our lives be like with no goal or ultimate reward somewhere in the back of our minds? I know I have spent many days typing through one boring paper after another imagining the time when I would be able to support myself and my family through my own writings, and not the half witted ideas that I am forced to typeset each day. However, most people fail to ever realize these dreams, or at the very least do nothing to work towards them. Now, that being said I feel compelled to add that most dreams shift and change over time, but one should still work towards eventually fulfilling their dreams by taking steps to insure that they can one day come true.
Always keep your dream in mind. If you dream of one day walking the grand streets of Paris, hang a poster of those streets on your bedroom wall. If you dream of being a famous artist, keep a picture of Davinci or another great artist nearby to remind you of what can be achieved. Unfortunately, the old adage out of sight out of mind proves itself to be true daily, so keep reminders of your dream handy. That way you are constantly reminded of where you are headed, and to keep working to make that dream a reality.
Take small steps towards making your dream a reality. Have you always dreamed of being a writer? Start submitting your work to pay per article or no pay venues. Chances are someone will not come seek you out just to see if you can do something. You have to take small steps to make your dreams come true. Start out small with low pay or no pay projects in your given field that will allow you to get your name out there in the field. Once your name gains some recognition, you can rest assured you are making some headway into making your dream a reality.
Network with other people who share in your dream. Whether your dream is owning a home, a fabulous vacation or a new career networking with people who share your vision will give you the opportunity to share ideas on making your dreams a reality. Who knows, if you are all dreaming of a fabulous vacation in Hawaii, you should be able to get better rates with a group of 20 than a group of 3. If your dream is to one day own a home of your own, maybe some of the other prospective homebuyers would have real estate tips or other ideas that could be useful to you. I have often heard that 2 minds are better than one, so why wouldn’t 30 minds be better than 2?
Share your dream with people you know. Okay, so maybe your sister or best friend do not share your dream of being a famous author someday. But, who’s to say that they won’t one day run in to and befriend a publisher? The more people that know about your dream and support it the more likely you are to succeed at it, after all they will all know people and things that you don’t that may lead to the realization of your dream.
If your dream requires a monetary investment, start saving now. This may seem like the most impossible task in the world at first, however, the amount you save is not as important as the fact that you are saving. If you can only afford to put back one dollar a week towards your dream, you will be one dollar closer to that dream every week. Think of it this way, if dreams were easily attainable they would not be dreams. So, any small step towards making your dream a reality is a step in the right direction.
We all have dreams and ambitions for our lives, but few of us recognize how to work towards them. We all assume that a dream will happen all at once, but most of the time someone’s dream becoming a reality is more a succession of small steps toward that dream than a giant leap into the middle of it. So, if you want to eventually be able to achieve whatever it is you have been dreaming of start working towards it today. That way one of your tomorrows will hold all that you have been dreaming of for years.
